First topic message reminder :

A Welsh World Cup campaign that held so much promise a week ago ended in disappointment as Australia won the third-place play-off.

A try and drop-goal from Berrick Barnes and eight points from the boot of James O'Connor left Wales with fourth place despite a try from Shane Williams in possibly his last Test appearance.

In an error-ridden contest short on quality and atmosphere, Wales failed to replicate their devastating attacking form of earlier in the tournament.

A succession of handling errors gifted the Wallabies the initiative, and Leigh Halfpenny's try in the 83rd minute came too late to deny Robbie Deans' men.

While the result gives Australia revenge for Wales' victory in the corresponding game in the inaugural World Cup 24 years ago, a serious knee injury to fly-half Quade Cooper left their celebrations muted.

The biggest problem with Barnes is he doesn't let the players read how he wants the game played. They look constantly puzzled at the inconsistency of his decisions.

Phillips is taking forever at the back of the rucks. Give him a double-espresso and tell him to get the ball out faster.

I thinkthat's part of the deal that you get with Phillips - some great (breaks, strength with ball, tackling, breakdown, etc.) and some not so great (distribution, altho he's been better this RWC than recently)

Cripe this is a sloppy match. Good running intent, but sloppy. Lots of speculative passes to no one. Except the one which went straight to the touch judge.

Yes agree. Not the game I was expecting. Wales have made more mistakes than in the rest of the tournament. Pretty dull.

1/2 time.

I enjoyed the first half. The Aussie try aside, there hasnt been too much between the sides. Wales defensive efforts would normally take their toll later in the match but this is a very fit Welsh team so it may go to the wire this one.

Priestland has been a huge loss. Had he not have missed the semi final I honestly believe we would be watching France this morning and the boyos would be preparing for their first World Cup final on Sunday.

He has really come of age this tournament.

+10, I didn't think I'd be saying it either. But Priestland was a huge loss for us against France and it's proving so again. Much more so than missing Adam and Sam, which is pretty surprising.

Two observations;
Ryan Jones is playing great for Wales.
Both teams are trying too hard and spilling the ball all over New Zealand. Exciting, but sloppy.

Priest land made a huge difference.

Hook and jones aren't match fresh. Priestland had the hot seat for three months with jones and hook second fiddle.

It's no wonder they are struggling.

Can you guys see the dressing room footage? Kurtley in ice, Quade on the gurney. What a disaster. They're saying 6-7 months minimum for QC... could be 8-10 depending on the amount of damage.
