Mexican football team Club America puts entire squad on transfer list

Football managers have often used the threat to sell their whole team as a way to get their players motivated, but few have actually gone ahead and done it.

That's until now. Mexican side America have placed their entire squad on the transfer list after a series of dreadful results, which have seen the team plummet to the bottom of the Apertura championship.

Their latest 3-1 defeat at the hands Cruz Azul was the final straw and the team's board have decided to act.

'Today, the board met and after analysing the results in this tournament it took the decision to put all the players in the squad on the transfer list,' America said in a statement.

'The team did not meet expectations and we say sorry to all our followers who supported us during the tournament and we offer our commitment to work hard from now to reverse this situation.'

The America squad boasts a number of high profile players, including Argentina midfielder Daniel Montenegro, Ecuador striker Cristian Benitez and Uruguayan winger Vicente Sanchez.

Ultimately this maybe an elaborate ploy by frustrated America coach Alfredo Tena to get his players to perform better, and if it is, we admire the lengths the club have gone to in order to make it seem realistic.
