Post by carrieg4 Fri 25 Nov 2011, 9:57 am

Just wanted to congratulate David Ferrer on his fantastic results so far at the World Tour Finals. Even if his opponents were not at 100% this should not detract from his great performances - he beat them on the day which is never easy in this tournament. I wish him good luck for the rest of the week and hope he takes this form into next season Bubbly

(BTW sorry LK, didn't mean to rub it in but really wanted to congratulate Ferrer)

Yes, the first to qualify for the semis were 2 players in their 30th year or plus, whose old bodies carry them along to a full year of tennis from January to November for the last 10 years or more on the tour.

He certainly deserves a thread here.

I've always had a soft spot for Ferrer and wanted him to do well so I am really pleased for him. I admire his determination and indomitable spirit, both great qualities in a sportsman.

Ferrer does come across as a really nice and classy guy . He is a first class dry style grinder, so never enjoyed his matches.
He played very well against Novak the other day , went for him and it paid off.
He seems to be super-fit at the moment, also confident and even attacking now!

Happy for him. He is the real humble bull.

and even attacking now!

Ferrer has always been an offensive minded grinder I feel - he will look to get on the front foot if he can in a rally, and even closes the net quite frequently when he gets the chance. I like him, but you always feel he will lose to the best when they're playing well, as he doesn't have the weight of shot or variety to really trouble them.

I don't think he is destined to be higher than 5 in the world but it is great to see him making the most of his talent. A great example of a sportsman.

Fully deserves to be in the semis. Has played two very good matches. Think that Federer would still have too much for him if thats who he meets. However were it to be Tsonga then I have the feeling he might just frustrate him enough to be able to win.

Ferrer has taken the first set off Berdych. Ferrer is in outstanding form. Ferrer got to the semi-final of the AO earlier in the year - anyone reckon he could reach a final of a grand slam tournament next year? Maybe even win one? Seems unlikely. He has just broken Berdych in the second set.

I don't know NS to be honest. He has such good areas to his game like his footwork and his inside-out FH, but his BH and FH up the line are not in the league of the players above him. You would have to say if he got to a HC final against Nadal he could have a chance. A small one at that.

Don't see him beating Tsonga tbh, a match up issue on this surface, Tsonga will not be letting the chance slip to put another one over the Spaniards for his great pal Yannick Noah Wink

Ferrer collapses to lose in three sets. The top three ranked players are out of this tournament Djokovic, Nadal and Murray.

Ferrer is one of those gentleman left in the sport, a great fighter, yea his style of play most days annoy, but he never gives up short of 100% in any match, and if the opponent doesnt play their best against him than can be a surprise waiting.

SO happy for his success and to see him back on top 5, wish davydenko back on top 8 as well.

Would like to see Roddick, Davydenko, and Delpotro back on top 8.

Ferrer take a bow for you inspirational tournament so far.
