Nadal- Del Potro , Davis cup

Del Potro thrashed Nadal in the 1st set 6-1, if some remember I have been saying this on 606 repeatedly, 2009 Del Potro would have beaten Rafa on FO had it not been Soderling. Rafa was lucky enough not to meet his matador in 2010 or 2011.

I don't agree. Del Potro can hit with amazing power but he isn't very consistant. Thats the problem with this sort of play it is just more low percentage and risky. The longer a match goes on especially on clay errors will tend to creep in.

Thats why Nadal is so good on clay. He has the perfect tactics. At his best he plays low risk until its safe to go for a winner. Despite this I did think Del Potro had a chance today. I thought before the match started that Nadal was playing under intense pressure... and so it proved. I thought it was impressive how he managed to control his emotions despite starting so poorly and come through with a win.

If your a Del Potro fan I can sympithise. I think he played very well today and against Ferrer on Friday. No one should feel too bad about losing to Nadal on clay though...

I only watched the second set of the match but the worrying thing was del potro was having an alright day with his forehand and was hitting with depth and power. It's just that his shots were retrievable still and his forehand is a higher percentage shot than Nadal's. Basically saying it didn't look like he stood a chance.
