The Predictor Empty The Predictor

Post by ArchBritishchris Sat 12 Mar 2011, 8:39 pm

Thread for last minute predictions on tonights fights.

Burns and DeGale are no doubt racking up reputations in Ghana for coasting it a bit. Some interesting style match ups and tricky title defences lay ahead in tonights contests. Martinez will no doubt feel he has something to prove and is talking tough, Dzinziruk for his part is refusing to be intimidated. Its Edinburgh against London elsewhere on the same fight card. Could well define who progresses on to compete for a title, which in fact may well be against Martinez. In his first LMW title defence, Miguel Cotto is taking on veteran Nicaraguan star Ricardo Mayorga. With Mayorga in the ring anything is possible and there are sure to be fireworks.

Ricky Burns vs Joseph Laryea - Burns UD
James DeGale vs Alpay Kobal - DeGale tko 4
Miguel Cotto vs Ricardo Mayorga - Cotto UD
Sergio Martinez vs Sergiy Dzinziruk - Martinez tko 10
Craig McEwan vs Andy Lee - Lee UD
Miguel Vasquez vs Leonardo Zappavigna - Vasquez tko 8
Pawel Wolak vs Yuri Foreman - Foreman UD

Ricky Burns vs Joseph Laryea - Burns UD
James DeGale vs Alpay Kobal - DeGale KO 5rd
Miguel Cotto vs Ricardo Mayorga - Cotto KO 9rd
Sergio Martinez vs Sergiy Dzinziruk - Martinez UD
Craig McEwan vs Andy Lee - Lee UD
Miguel Vasquez vs Leonardo Zappavigna - 10 TKO
Pawel Wolak vs Yuri Foreman - Foreman UD

Think Mayorga vs Cotto will be the fight of the night, seems some bad blood in the build with a lot of trash talks, could be fireworks tonight.

There's bad blood between Mayorga and whoever he fights. Love the bloke. He'll get pummelled as he's more past it than SSM.

Dzinziruk is undefeated and a reasonable boxer, but I can't see much thats dangerous in him. He pretty much hops up and down on the spot and flicks out a right jab every so often. Not very mobile or quick, his reach is dwarfed by Martinez's. I could be totally wrong, he does obviously possess some strengths, but surely he doesn't have the game to beat Martinez. I can't see him getting caught with a right jab that often, without landing many punches himself. A 173 cm reach against Martinez, he can stand about 10 cm from his opponent and blast away.

He's not a quiet lad in the ring Martinez, he doesn't stand in one place and throw the odd mild punch. All his efforts go into beating his opponent to a pulp, he's like a Maidana who can box. Its the wrong fight for Dzinziruk, the other guy went home early, this is a different kind of guy.

Up to the minute results.

Burns successfully defended his title against Laryea winning by 8th round stoppage (Layrea quit citing an injured had)

Burns tko 8

Fifth round stoppage in the DeGale vs Kobal fight proved to be accurate.

DeGale tko 5

Also, in other news Appleby picked up a decision win in his bout.

DeGale looked super impressive against an oppomemt with as much ambition as a heavy bag.
