Bare knuckle 'boxing' Empty Bare knuckle 'boxing'

Post by Commander Tue 13 Dec 2011, 12:20 pm

Bare knuckle 'boxing' has been around probably since time-began but I wanted your thoughts on is: what traditional (gloved) fights/results do you think would NOT be the same had they taken place bare-knuckle?

Strewth, that's a tough one, Commander.

I suspect that the real casualties would be the guys who don't so much possess one punch power but, rather, rely on a prolific output of fairly hefty punches to put a man away. They would, after all, be vulnerable to hand injuries.

I'd suggest that most of Calzaghe's fights and pretty much ALL of Malignggi's fights would have ended in TKO defeats due to hand injuries.

Watching Tyson would have been pretty frightning.

Not sure Gatti Ward would have gone ten rounds twice.

Until he broke his 5th MCP on the first shot. Shocked

Hurts, that.

It would be a different game entirely, mostly body shots to protect the hands, less conditioned bellies to absorb more punishment, totally different.

Malignaggi would be the Earnie Shavers of his day, those damn gloves absorbed all his power!

I'd guess guys who rely on parrying and using the size of the gloves to stop the opponent from landing clean (like Mayweather) would suffer because a big chunk of their defense has gone out the window.

Floyd Patterson, Mike Tyson and Amir Khan would all be much less effective (I know - last time you're likely to see those 3 in the same sentence for a while).

Anyone who relies on a gloves up defence in fact - because fists don't defend quite the same area as gloves.

RJJ is still as effective - as reflex fighters do well.

Anyone who has excellent timing.

Fighters who throw lots of shots would be boned. Dip your head and feel the knuckles crack. The bonce is a very hard thing.

Valuev, would be pretty useful.

Paulie Malignaggi's hands would most likely drop off.

I wonder if Hatton v PBF or Pacquiao would be any different? Smile
