The Tag Team Division - Past & Present Empty The Tag Team Division - Past & Present

Now it is quite obvious that the current tag team division in the WWE is nowhere near the standards of what it once was. But what I want to ask is, what are everyones favourite moment or moments from the tag team division, and what are your favourite storylines involving tag teams.

Mine would be the triple threat TLC matches between the Hardy Boys, Edge and Christian and the Dudley Boys. Predictable I know, but I'm only 18 so most of my memories of the tag team division, revolve around these 3 tag teams and I generally was fascinated at what would happen in matches between these guys when they went head to head, especially in matches such as TLC.

Finally do you think there is any hope for the current tag team division, they currently have epico and primo (along with rosa mendes) and the Usos who have a pretty impressive new entrance as well as the current champions Air Boom. What would you do to improve the current state of the tag team division in time for a decent tag team match up at Wrestlemania?

There are to many belts in WWE, that's why the tag division has suffered. In years gone by there were only 2 major belts, the WWE and the Intercontinental title, so you would get some of the upper mid card guys, going for the tag titles. Even some of the main eveners held the tag champs back then, the likes of The Rock and Mankind, Kane and The Undertaker, and even Triple H and Stone Cold had a run with them.

Nowadays there are 4 major singles titles, so all the best wrestlers are to busy occupying feuds for those titles. So the tag titles are being contested by a lesser class of wrestler nowadays, than they ever have been.

The 3 teams you mention, were probably the 3 most famous teams from the attitude era. My personal favourites were the Dudley Boys, used to love the 3D through the table.

The Headbangers :O
I cant believe I forgot those guys until this thread came up.

dont forget you had the euro, hardcore and lightweight titles at the time aswell so dont think it means there are too many titles

I feel that the problem is that there are too many thrown together teams at the moment, not ones that have come in straight off as a team

I think the WWE just aren't interested in tag team wrestling any more. Every couple of months somebody posts some theory as to how to rejuvenate the tag team division, but WWE could easily create a tag team division, they have enough wrestlers and characters to do it. It's just not what WWE wants to do for whatever reason, despite it's proven track record of being a good way to start people off before they become stars, and the fact that there isn't any evidence that it isn't popular they aren't interested these days.

Yes but the Euro title was just a Sunday night heat belt, it wasn't realy a respected belt, and the Hardcore was generally a specialists title and division.

So back during the attitude era, there were only realy 2 belts more prestigious, than the tag titles, the IC Title and the WWE Title. Now they introduced the world, as a par with the WWE, and the US as a par with the IC. So there are 4 belts above the tag titles.

During the attitude era I would have had the pecking order as, WWE, IC, Tag, Euro and Hardcore.

I think its the fact that there are just no good storylines involving the tag teams. Back in the attitude era, the mid carders and lower card wrestlers were in storylines as well as the upper card fighters. Nowadays there aren't any storylines within the tag division, and if there is, then it isn't being put across very well.

Its just a bunch of teams going against eachother week after week. Also the issue of the number of titles needs to be sorted as well I reckon. There are a good number of wrestlers present in the WWE, but there isn't a clear structure as to who is challenging and is or will be in line for a title shot. The superstars need to really be fighting for the opportunity to challenge for a WWE championship or World Heavyweight championship cos otherwise the titles don't mean as much as they should.

I just think its a case of Vince has completely lost interest in the tag team division. If he wanted to spend more time on it he could build a credible division again.

Favourite tag team storyline.... I just loved the Rockers inevitable break up, culminating in Michaels throwing Jannety through the Barber Shop window

Yeah that's a classic, I liked how the Hart Foundation would use the dastardly decisons of Danny Davis to get the better of the British Bulldogs and how Mr Fugi turned on Demolition which led to the double turn with them and the Powers Orf Pain, although I've never understood why he did it

Yeah forgot about that with Fugi was that at a Survivor Series or Summerslam around 89?

Danny Davis! Whatever happened with that in the end? Did he just go back to being a ref again?
