Lendl wants Murray to win 8 slams
Lendl wants Murray to win as many grand slams as he did
Saturday - Jan 14, 2012, 03:03pm (GMT+5.5)
Sydney - Tennis legend Ivan Lendl, who recently took over as Andy Murray's coach, has said that he wants Murray to win as many titles as he did.
During his playing days, Lendl had endured a similar experience as Murray is facing right now. He had won his first grand slam at the Roland Garros in 1984 before losing his previous five grand slam finals. He then went on to win eight grand slams in his entire career.
Similarly, Murray has already lost three consecutive grand slam finals and Lendl can see lots of similarity between him and Murray.
"Obviously, I see the parallels, and I want his career to end up like mine. I know the media have been on Andy for losing three finals in a row. [But] if you look at that, he lost to Roger Federer, arguably the best player who ever played, and to Novak [Djokovic]," said Lendl in his first press briefing after taking over as Murray's new coach.
Lendl feels that Murray is hardworking athlete with lots of desire to succeed, The Telegraph reports.
"I think it's the match-up with Andy Murray. We have been through similar things. He likes to work hard I like to work hard. So far he has done everything asked of him and I also admire his guts for hiring me because he had to know it would create a lot of interest. [My arrival] wasn't going to go unnoticed and it ups the ante a little bit. That just shows me he wants it. It would have been very easy just to hire just another coach," he added.

I think Murray should have waited until he had lost 5 GS finals before appointing Lendl...

So Lendl is saying that he is going to prevent Murray to win more slams than him?
I recognise the competitive side of the old man!

To be fair I think Lendl would settle for 8. In fact I guarantee they would both settle for 3, maybe even 1.

Murray 8 slams?
Well that's what was said about Jimmy White (world championships) and all the time he kept getting fearful losing 6 times in the final.
I believe Raonic and Tomic are the future of our tennis now, not Andy.

Not Dogopolov too?
Surely a top 10 spot beckons this year.

Not after his showing in the first round (Greg Jones rofl?), struggles with average players like he did yesterday, a repeat of his crap win over Cipolla in USO 2nd round.

He did have a good showing in Brisbane. I wouldn't write him off yet. Consistency and he will be quite the player.

I like Andy, but 8 Slams?
There's a big doubt over the first.
