WTA number 1 ranking

From commentary last night of the C-Woz match, I understand that coming into the Australian Open, 6 women had the possibility of ending the tournament as world number 1.

Wozniacki needs to reach at least the 4th round to have any chance of staying at #1 - could be a challenge as she has a left wrist injury, although it only seemed to slightly inhibit the cross court backhand.
Kvitova is close, and would take over (at least virtually) if C-Woz loses before the 4th round
Also in range - Sharapova, Azarenka, Radwanska and (at least coming into the tournament) Stosur.

Apparently, some of these are improbable. For example, Radwanska would need to win and for others to fail to get beyond certain points. However, it does show how incredibly tight the rankings are at the moment

Once Ivanovic is taking tennis seriously again (not just a one off match) the number 1 spot will finally be deserved. The others mostly are too bland.

It seems a bit of an open field

Well if Kvitova can atleast reach semi finals, i'd say she passes as the number 1 player. Even Wozniacki winning this wouldn't convince me she's number 1.
