Sirmais Zigismunds, Latvia, has turned the star of the European Cup Winter Throwing in Sofia as he launched a big new world U20 record of 84.47m in the men's javelin to topple great Andre Thorkildsen's previous mark of 83.87m back in 2001. But the writing was on the wall all along that he could accomplish such a feat as he had already shown his intentions last September when he catapulted his spear out to 82.27m in Jurmala.

That throw saw him easily win the senior men's competition for good measure.
