Disappointed there is no footage of the Vance Winn fight, Union.

I went to that one, I was invited by some very special friends of mine.....

Looking at the list he hasn't really fought anyone of note except Wlad.

Haye is a paper champion pure and simple. The guys record stands for very little and the loud mouth will be consigned to history's dust bin soon enough.

Yeah, beating unified champ Mormeck in his back yard is a pretty nothing achievement. Then stepping up and beating the biggest world champion boxer of all time, and in doing so becoming only the second man to win titles at both Cruiser and Heavyweight is a similarly paltry accomplishment.

I'd be embarrassed if I was a boxer and this was all I had managed in my professional career.

Apologies for hijacking the thread... at least its on topic

I've heard Frank Maloney making increasingly spiteful comments over the past couple of years about David Haye..despite the fact the he used to be his promoter.

I know Frank Warren has a habit of doing this but Ive not noticed Maloney do it before.

Is this just sour grapes that Haye decided to promote himself or have I missed something??

( love the way fi5heyes gets autocorrected to Frank Warren Very Happy )

Mormeck just wasn't very good. He was champ in the worst divion in boxing history.

If they are drawing up a list of the worst bauble belt holders of all time Valuev is bound to be close to the top of the list.

Valuev isnt even in the worst 10 heavyweight champions of all time in my view, let alone every other division. He had no skills but his size alone made him awkward.

Beating Valuev is not a great achievement. He was beaten by chagaev, antie every very average fighter who was even smaller than haye (height wise).

Holyfield almost beat him at age 47 or something like that and Holyfield was the shadow of his former self. Also look at the scoring of the fight, it wasn't dominating or convincing, he did the bare minimum to win the rounds.

Mormeck is his second best win, maybe Enzo, but the cuiserweight division has been poor to say the least, probably the worst division in boxing for the last 10 years

I don't remember Dundee making much noise about Haye. He was a very old man when Haye went HW.

Freddie bought into Haye's talk and the fact he knocked over a couple of has been / never were HW's. Freddie of all people would have lost major interest in Haye when he ran around the ring on the biggest day of his career.

Stewart was the opposing trainer so you can take everything he says about Haye with a pinch of salt.

I think Dundee said he thought Haye could be a top 14 all time heavyweight.

Say what you like, but he had some pretty exciting KO's, good natural gifts and seemed ambitious for a while. Did quite a bit in a small number of fights too. A shame the good is outweighed by the bad so massively.

Like it or not, in many people's estimations Haye is a top 3 all time Cruiser.

As such, he won't be 'consigned to history's dustbin' as you so put it.

Haye is no ATG or future HoFer but he is demonstrably not a 'paper' champion. Mormeck was the man at Cruiser and Haye kayoed him in his own back yard, picking himself up off the canvas in order to do it. How can you be a 'paper' champion if you beat the recognised number 1 at the weight?

That is not rhetorical question, I would actually be interested to hear your answer.

Mormeck was useles, have a look at his fights.

I was in a discussion about Haye's skill level recently and the concenus was the majority of Haye's punches were wild swings.

Haye even been considered as an ATG cruiser shows how pathetic that division is and has been. A 200 lb man needs to fight at HW. The cruiser division is the biggest flop in boxing.

The only people who rate Haye are the book worms who would prefer to look at records that watch a fight. I've seen enough of Haye to know he is completely overrated. If Vitali feels sorry enough for Haye to give him a shot it will be demonstrated again how poor Haye is.

I've watched Mormeck fight, he is far from 'useless'. Some perspective is needed here. Mormeck / Haye are not the equal of Holyfield (tacitly acknowledged by my statement that Haye is not an ATG/HoFer) however, that doesn't make both boxers 'useless'.

I guess it boils down to opinions. Mine is that for a fighter to compete over many years and become the recognised number one in any weight division, regardless of depth of talent pool in that weight division, then that fighter possess more than just a modicum of talent.

Haye has achieved a lot in his career. World Amateur silver medallist. Unified Cruiserweight World Champion. WBA Heavyweight World Champion.

He's also, IMO at least, looked good and displayed excellent technique and athletic ability in a number of his fights (Ruiz, Maccaranelli etc.)

Records can actually be very revealing. Whatever your opinion on Haye's ability or level of opposition, he will not be considered a 'paper' champion at Cruiser and I seriously doubt that he will be 'consigned to the dustbin of history'. Simply stating that Mormeck was 'useless' and that Haye defeated him by throwing 'wild swings' isn't likely to change that.

Every time he appears in public he erodes the fact he beat an old fat Frenchman.

Arguably Cunningham, but in all honesty I think Strongy just doesn't like Haye on a personal level and as such I doubt his opinion of him would be positive even had Haye beaten Cunningham.
