Over rated player

Title says it all really:

This is a thread to discuss the most over rated players in football history - past or present.

The first one that springs to mind for me is Gareth Barry - England captain? What is Capello thinking?

torres comes to mind straight away

Charlie Adam.

Gary Caldwell.

Liam Miller. (Originally - he's found his level now).

There are plenty of players that have half a decent season then get picked up for scandalous amounts and never lived to the hype.

Alan Hutton is another one. He's decent...but no better than that.

Can't agree more with though on Caldwell DT - biggest numpty to have ever represented Scotland and we've had the likes of Nigel Quashie

John Terry anyone? :run2:

Michael Carrick and Anderson.

Many United fans love them and they're both very average.

It's strange that people are voting for players that are not on form.
Pr4wn: Carrick helped us win 3 Prem titles in succession.
scfs1992: nani is on fire this season, and Torres is arguably been the best striker in prem in last 10 years, it's not his fault Liverpool were so inconsistant.

Glen Johnson is so overrated. Little defensive ability.

By warming the bench?

United fans seriously overrate Carrick because of the amount that was spent on him. Picking up Scott Parker would have been a much better move.

How is Carrick in bad form? He's never been that good since he joined United.

Whenever the word "overrated" is used, I think of it in its strict definition terms and Steve Gerrard springs to mind.

That's not to say I think he's bad. Quite the contrary, he is a VERY good player. BUT - I don't think he lives up to the reputation he has been given - hence OVER rated

Carrick at the time was better than Parker, but obviously not any more. Carrick is in bad form now because whenever he plays, he plays bad.

It's been like that for the last two seasons.

What about Van Nistelrooy, Henry, Bergkamp

I never said he was the overall best striker, i said arguably! And he has been ONE of the best in recent times!

Zlatan Ibrahimovich
As one of top 2 best paid players in world football, Ibra has been constantly touted by those in Serie A as the 'complete forward' and even by his coach at Inter, Jose Mourinho as simply the best. I'm not sold on this guy one bit. At 27, time is running out for Ibrahimovich to prove he has something else in the locker. People like Jose Mourinho have apparently seen (or maybe want to see) in him things I haven't.

Super Mario is a great player he's just a bit of a nutter. Scott Brown, Charlie Adam, Gary Caldwell they are overrated talentless yet are all regular internationals and all 3 captain their clubs.

How can people say Nani, Torres & John Terry are over rated?

Oh and Jack Wiltshire is over rated

Strongly agree with Ibrahimovic! I think he is one of those players you either love or hate. He is capable of some special moments but he is also so lazy and his work rate is very questionable!

Don't think Ibra is overrated he is very talented on his day as good as any striker on the planet. He is just lazy.

Darren Fletcher, seems to try harder for his club than his country. And his hardest in the EPL is fairly average on the grand scale of things but everytime I'm south of the border and we're having the 'Scotland are rudey poo at football' agro one idiot always says something about DFletch being the only Scotsman who can excell in England. I don't get it

He does his job well which is win the ball and give it to the players in the team who can create openings. He is good at that, the problem is with Scotland because he plays for Man U we want him to be a creative midfielder and take the game to teams, that is not what he is about.

Andy Carroll £35m would have gave you £8-10 top and that is being generous. Worth £10m than Balotelli? No chance Super Mario is talented he's just a nutter.

I apologise for the above comment claiming Torres is arguably the best striker in last 10 years. I now realise this was a serious over-exaggeration, and am happy to admit that.
