Little game....
I tried to remember, without googling of course, the order of the Wimbledon's men winners as far as I could.
I got the players and their year in the right order for 34 of the last 36 years, starting 1976..just got 2 players reversed in the 80s.
How far back can you go? and can you remember the right order of Wimbledon's winners too?
Just say your result without mentioning players or years.....yet.

Wow, you are the true fan of Wimbledon. I can go back to early 80s but with lots of gaps. Continuous until 2001.

Yeah I can't remember 2001 (without an internet search) - was that Goran's year? Can't remember which year was Sampras' last title...

Re: Little game....
The recollection of last year's Wimbledon is so huge in my memory, it's completely blacked out every other one
I'm really impressed you can go back in order that far Tenez

Re: Little game....
I never thought I could but there are key dates and facts which helped me a lot fill the "in between". I only got the Cash and Edberg years reversed.

Let me guess, you chose "cash" first

Now Tenez if you'd remembered all the winners until our last home-grown champ I would have been impressed.
Mind you that's like memorzing pie to 100 places i guess!

I can go back to 92 without any trouble... Then it becomes a problem...
But that should be easy for most people...

John Lloyd is as far back as I can. SFP might beat me on this one. he's got about nearly 2 decades more years experience but as Roger says, we might need to look 300 years back.....not sure.

That's good actually....but you see, if you remember key records, then it becomes easy.

Re: Little game....
I can probably get most from Open era...maybe get 2-3 wrong from 70s.
I think its a tougher test with the other slams before the 90s...

Re: Little game....
I really surprised myself and just got 4 wrong (went back to '76) - I thought I would get way more. Mr Sampras really helps by being so consistent in the 90s and Borg and Fed for their chunks of titles. It was the Becker and Edberg years that I totally mixed up - and it was a lucky guess not conviction that had me put Stich for '91.

Exactly like me but I was more lucky. I thought I could have gone further back but messed up 75.

If you think Becker vs. Edberg is confusing try Venus and Serena in the Women's then

I got back to 1974 with no mistakes, I got lucky with a correct guesstimate for 1975.

Re: Little game....
I can go back to 1974, when Connors won. But have no clue about the years before, I'm not really interested in pre-Connors/Borg era.
AO I'm sure of the winners till 1988 , when Wilander won.
I think (but not sure) Edberg won in 86-87, but after that it gets all blank.

Re: Little game....
Without looking at the other posts I can remember off the top of my head from the bottom up Drobny in 54, Trabert in 55, Hoad in 56 and 57, Cooper in 58, Olmedo in 59, then Fraser in 60, then Laver, Laver, McKinley, Emerson, Emerson, Santana, Newcombe, Laver, Laver (we're up to 69 now), Newcombe, Newcombe, Smith. Kodes (the boycott year), Connors, Ashe, Borg, Borg, Borg, Borg, Borg and that's where everyone else comes in.....

I'll check whether those are accurate! Can you also do the 80s, beginning 90s in the right order? That 's what I found difficult! without posting them of course. We'll trust you!

Re: Little game....
To and including 2001 is pretty easy for me....1993-2000 were 7 Sampras and 1 Krajicek. Krajicek was 96 or 97...I'll say 1996. 1992 Agassi. 91 hmmm, this is where I actually started watching them... I'll go
1989 Edberg
1990 Stich
1991 Becker
Check how I'm doing before looking again...
Rats, I got the 1989 - 1991 all twisted up. 1992 is the furthest back I can go. No surpise there. 1992 it's the first one I can properly remember, the first one I really intently watched. 1990-1991 I was half watching it.

1991 Becker

Re: Little game....
How about the US Open then?
I got back as far as 1979 without any mistakes. I knew 1974, I did not know 1975 at all, and I got the names of the players who won between 1976-1978 but confused the order of their wins.

Re: Little game....
Ooh, the USO is tricky. Can I, instead, chuck in from memory the 1953 winner at Wimbledon - one Vic Seixas - and I think Budge Patty won in 1950. Jack Kramer won one year in the 1940s
The 48 Wimby runner-up - Australian John Bromwich who lost to Falkenberg (spelling?) - had match points and lost.
Laver, I think, had match points in a GS final some years later and lost and then it didn't happen again until Coria had MPs in the French final and lost to Gaudio.
Davenport had an MP against Venus at Wimbledon one year and lost but it's remarkable how few times it's happened.

Special points for the Wimbledon 2012 winner!
Who can get that? Not even SFP, I am sure.

Re: Little game....
Good discussion
lol 2012, it'll be one of the top four, probably even 3 if I stick my neck out!
I find the French the 2nd easiest to think back on (probably back to 90ish is ok), then USO (ok back to 90ish also but maybe more errors), then AO to around 95ish to be honest - all with some selected ones in earlier years but loads of gaps!

Did Coria had MP v Gaudio? I did not watch it but I was not aware of MP.
