Dragons Hooker lloyd burns forced to retire due to injury

saw this on a rugby columnist twitter feed, sad for him and the dragons could have been a regional stalwart for us

Poor lad. He had just really made a name for himself, and then has to retire. Atleast on the plus side he did manage to get a RWC in before injury.

it now makes sense why they are trying to attract g price of cross keys, atm we have jones (who isnt getting any younger) parry and solis on a development contract

oh this is horrible news for Lloyd, just after he'd made it to a rwc too, he had so much promise.

This is awful, so sorry for him. Grafted his way through the system, get a pro contract, WRC then forced to retire. I’m gutted for him.

Very sad news for a young player

This is sad news. But at least he retires knowing that in his brief career as a pro, he was part of a tremendous effort by that wales team and played his part in it.

Absolutely gutted poor guy.
He could of been a future dragons captin. Always gave 100%. I wonder if he can even go back to brick laying. Hopefully he made a few quid from the world cup

Absolutely gutted for him plus a huge loss for the Dragons and the International team, was hoping he'd fight his way back in.

Just goes to show how lucky Lydiate was and how hard he is !

"Newport Gwent Dragons and Wales hooker Lloyd Burns has been forced to retire from rugby, following a neck injury that has seen the hooker out of action since the beginning of January.

Ongoing tests have revealed damage to the aorta resulting in immediate retirement, with possible heart surgery to follow.

Director of Rugby Robert Beale said, everything Lloyd has achieved in life he has earned through hard work and dedication, his enforced retirement from the game has come as a massive shock to Lloyd and his family and will resonate throughout the rugby world.

I am personally relieved that this serious condition has been identified off the field of play and would therefore like to thank our medical team at the Dragons, staff at the Royal Gwent Hospital and University of Wales Cardiff for all their efforts in ensuring Lloyd has and will continue to receive the highest standards of care. "

Completely agree, he was a beast in the loose, leading from the front.

True Man of Gwent and would have been my vote for captain before he was capped due to the way he led for us with his carrying etc. Would have been a great influence for rugby players in our region for his rags to riches tale and that's why I think we should find some role for him, as his story is still an inspiration though it hasn't ended how he'd liked.

Thanks for everything Lloyd. You genuinely were one of my favourite players at the Dragons.

Absolutely flaming gutted for Burner, but thank god they spotted what was wrong.

What a year to go out on though! His try in the World Cup was my favourite moment of the competition. All the best Lloyd, a proper Man of Gwent.

Gutted to hear for this, especially just when he'd carved himself a space in the Welsh squad as well. Really hope the heart surgery goes well and he keeps his health and stays with the Dragons in some capacity.
