Golf dreams Empty Golf dreams

Post by incontinentia Sat Apr 21, 2012 9:11 pm

Hi golfers,

I had a troubling golf dream/nightmare last night and was wondering if other golfers have had the same.

I was in a two-ball waiting for the group ahead on a par three to finish so we could tee off. I had the honour and when I stepped up to take the shot I was overcome with an extremely anxious and uncomfortable feeling. I couldn't grip the club correctly, and I couldn't align myself correctly with the target. It was taking me ages to get comfortable and the fact that I was slowing down play added to the anxiety. It was taking me so long that the two-ball behind us caught and joined us to become a 4 ball. The two newcomers were staring at me and this further exacerbated my condition. Eventually I hit the ball and made decent-ish contact and the ball got 3/4 of the way to the green.

I have had other such dreams in the past. For example, teeing off from inside a prefab building and couldn't complete my backswing- which in the dream was very frustrating.

Have others had similar dreams or do I need to lay off the cheese at bedtime?

I occasionally have a dream where I can't get the ball to stay on the tee and another when I'm in an enclosed space where I can't stand back far enough to get a full swing. Both are recurring. The latter usually involves being stood on a winter/mat type teeing area. Weird.

Hibz.
The ball falling off the tee thing is very common with golfers, myself included, I think it denotes anxiety.

I had a weird dream the other night.

I was organising a big national ladies tournament final [which I have done 20 years ago]. The course was very wet and the greenkeper wanted to abandon play[ been there quite a few times for other tournaments]
Ken Clarke [politician] was presenting the trophy [in reality I once attended a golf event where William Waldgrave was the main guest] The presentation was delayed due to rain and then another two politicians arrived and started arguing with Ken Clarke as to who would present the trophy.

Anyone want to annalise that??

I've had the enclosed space thing a number of times. Weird enough on its own, even stranger if it's a common theme.

I often dream the hole is on top of a table or in some impossible location.

Hmmm.

These stories don't sound like the "golf of your dreams" that Bob Rotella et al talk about...

I have a dream that one day I'll be able to drive the ball commensurate with my handicap!

I also have the 'can't find anywhere to tee up and can't make a swing at it' dream.

It probably is anxiety related.

As far as I can recall, I have never had a golf dream which involves the score. It's usually about playing with someone I don't like and can't find anywhere to tee it up.

Every once in a while I have the Happy Gilmore dream of a girl losing her clothes on the course. No idea why.

I do, having shot 58 on the front 9 and then starting the back 9. Hold on, that is not a dream, it's reality.

Louis Oosty has shot 57 once (being why it's emblazoned on his shirt sleeve).

That and winning The Open [at St Andrews] covers two ultimate dreams for many a golfer I'd imagine.

Lucky (and talented) sod.

It is interesting that the dodgy 5 foot downhill putt causes less anxiety in dreamland than teeing up your ball.

54 in the final round at The Masters. Due to good scoring previous 3 rounds I was in last place at even par beginning of round 4. Then go through the field and win.

Funny how these dreams are always about stress or anxiety, the only pleasant golf dream I've had involved playing a round with Megan Fox!

Did you mean "playing around with...", or is that a different dream not involving golf?!?
