Wales changes for 3rd test Empty Wales changes for 3rd test

Post by rhonddasmackhead Sat 16 Jun 2012, 2:20 pm

This test series was never about winning a "series". Wales are desperate for a win down under having not won there since Admiral Gruffydd Rhys discovered the continent in 1374.

Wales want as many chances to beat them as possible just to get ONE win. So far it's 4 matches since October and still nothing.

Here are the obvious changes.

15.
14.
13.
12.
11.
10. Hook (what choice do we have)
9. Webb (Italy have proven flankers do not belong in the backline)
8. Warburton (would like Delve, but they won't drop the captain, Ryan Jones very ineffective)
7. Tipuric (should have started today)
6.
5. Charteris (AWJ gave away several early penalties, he's the new Andy Powell)
4.
3.
2. Hibbard (Matthew Rees should be crucified for his disgustingly awful throwing)
1.

I disagree about Ryan, i thought he was one of the most effective ball carriers in the forwards today.

My changes would be

Tipuric for Lydiate (needs surgery, so give him a rest)
Charteris for Davies (we need better lineout ball)
Hibbard for Rees (deserves to start)
Hook for Priestland
Webb for Phillips
Rotate front row? (unite the Ospreys front frow?)

Owens for Rees on the bench
Evans for Davies on the bench
Lloyd Williams for Phillips on the bench

I wouldn't change the whole starting line-up however as the series is lost its abit of pressure off and a chance to look at some potential options such as tipuric, beck again etc. but there should still be a big aim to beat the wallabies before we leave, i think we deserve it.

Id go with...

1. James
2. Owens
3. Jones
4. AW-Jones
5. Evans
6. Warburton
7. Tipuric
8. Jones
9. Phillips
10. Hook
11. North
12. Beck
13. Davies
14. Cuthbert
15. L.Williams

16. Rees
17. Gill
18. Charteris
19. Shingler
20. Webb
21. Priestland
22. Scaping.Williams
7. Tipuric
8.Jones

The grand slam champions are the only NH nation who have a chance of beating one of the tri nations, so next week will do fine.

You'd drop Halfpenny? Has been arguably our player of the tour and absolutely necessary if we want to win imo.

I'd change the halfbacks, Phillips and Priestland do not look like horses for Australian courses. Tipuric should be in somewhere. Wouldn't mind seeing Hibbard start.

North
JD
Williams

It wont matter as Howley wont let them change the kicking game and we will keep giving Aus lots of lovely free ball to run back at us. Sad

The Wales management have blown the chance of a series win with the Quest for money, having the BaaBaas game a week before the first test,. The second mistake was not sending the match fit Ospreys players to Aus and playing the rusty players to have a warm up against the BaaBaas.

Team selection is also an issue, sticking with certain players coming back from Injury, not taking the form 10 and not playing the better 10 currently in the squad.

The changes for me I Evans for Bradley, Webb for Phillips, Hibbard for Rees, Tip for Warburton and the obvious one Hook at 10. It is unlikely this will happen as the management stick with the team however badly certain individuals play. We must go for a win for RWC seeding points.

1. Paul James
2. Hibbard
3. Adam J
4. Ian Evans
5. Charteris
6. Lydiate
7. Tipuric
8. Ryan
9. Webb
10. Hook
11. North
12. Beck
13. JD
14. Cuthbert
15. Halfpenny

16. Gethin
17. Smiler
18. Bradley.
19. Warburton
20. Phillips
21. Priestland
22. Sc Williams

We have played poorly twice and narrowly lost. Warburton is off the pace, Tipuric needs to come in. Hook over Priestland. Webb over Phillips, Ian Evans over Bradley who Ive been disapointed with,

We only have pride to play for but i think this team can deliver.

Howleys first outing as welsh coach has not been good. The team were unusually lethargic last weekend and even though they were better today they still did not play as well as we have seen recently.

warburton has earned a day off he looks like he is struggling with an injury so Tupric to start and Hook and Webb deserve a go with Priestland and Phillips on the bench.
Smiler should start but Hibbard should come on sooner around the 50min mark.

Bradley Davies should be dropped with Luke partnering Wyn Jones and Evans on the Bench.

Only other one i could think of is James on to do some real damage in the scrum.

Why change anything? Were taking on the 2nd best team in the world and nearly beat them, we were never coming here as favorites and can be very proud of the boys today. No disrespect to the 6 Nations teams but the 3 nations teams are clinical and much harder to beat.

I'd like Ianto Evans in the team, and maybe Tipuric for Warburton on the bench so he can have a rest. Though I'm not sure if Tipuric will cope with Pocock, they are even speed but Pocock is much stronger.

That's the attitude to have. I'd still put Hook on and relegate Priestland to the bench just to show the latter that he can't keep playing the way he did today. He seems to have lost the intelligence and game-management that won him praise in the WC. Let's hope this dip is only temporary.

I'd also start Webb for similar reasons, Phillips played very negatively today. This is the way to exploit competition for places: demonstrate that if you don't put in your best you can expect to lose your place.

I'm reluctant to drop Warbs being the skipper and having two games under his belt he should be getting there now. I'd definitely introduce Tipuric in the second half though unless Sam is having a very good game.

A lot of Wales fans were confident about win the series before it start.

Then said after game 1 "Oh we were underdone and need more time to get ready". Then game 2 lost and now is about "it's not about win series" ??!!!

Nonsense! To say you just want get one win is go back to admit you are second tier team and put SH teams back up on the untouchable pedestal and not what this team was suppose to be about.

Now admit the team lost because not good enough. Now admit embarrasing naive game management. Go fix it and move on.

Stop this excuse making and tinker the selection to solve the problem.
