I expect Djoko to fight back even if the first set may be beyond him. Djoko in four. Williams in straight sets. Is anyone brave enough to forecast an Azashrieker victory?

I think anything more than 6 or 7 games would be a victory from the shrieker.
As for the men's semi, I agree. Novak in 4. With the remaining 3 sets being hopefully very long and draining, although I suspect once Novak finds his groove they may go by pretty quickly.
Hopefully Broady will get the victory too, and show that for us Brits there is a bit more on the horizon post Murray in terms of the men's side.

No, let's hope its not long and draining and then the final will be a bigger wash out than even the tornado yesterday at the Open. It will be similar to the gold medal match otherwise. Novak just did not want to be there and in a way I see his point. They knew about an hour of play was possible and there was no way a match would finish in that time so it was senseless. Maybe the organisers hoped the more they played yesterday the less play today for whoever.

Hmmm wouldn't be so ready to write off David Ferrer. I do think Novak will find a way to win but perhaps in five sets.

I agree Caledonian, nothing ever comes easy against ferrer when he is up for it!

I do hope so. Much as I like Djokovic and Ferrer, I would like their legs wearied a bit for Murray - not that he will need it, I hope. Llendl confident:

You do have feeling the stars are aligned for Andy this year...surely this has to be one of his best chances to get off the mark.

When does the TV coverage start? SS haven't updated their TV guide yet so I'm wondering whether they'll just join play at 7pm.

Glad Ferrer won this game; I was worried he would still end up losing the first set.

Nah, Ferrer is made of granite. Even if he had dropped serve first game he would have wrapped it up eventually.

Re: US Open Day 14
Even though Ferrer is still ahead, this already looks like it will be fairly routine for Novak. And fairly quick.
And it's not that hot. Could be ideal prep for Novak rather than a disadvantage.

I would not call it ideal, but no big deal either (unless Ferrer gets his act together).Danny_1982 wrote:Could be ideal prep for Novak rather than a disadvantage.

He will have established a good rhythm from this match today, certainly way better than either him or Murray will have gained yesterday. with most players you'd question how much energy it would take out of them, but Novak outlasted a rested Nadal in Melbourne after a 5 hour semi, so we know his recovery potential.
I suspect he won't be out here much more than another hour and a half at this rate.

Oh Daveed
His not playing his usual game today which is annoying. Djokovic got lucky yesterday, perhaps it's written in the stars that he wins the tournament.

Tough to see anyone beating Novak when he plays like this. Great length, great retrieving, great pace on his shots. If Murray can't disrupt this kind of rhythm then Novak wins the tournament.
He looks sensational.

Re: US Open Day 14
Ok Novak is playing phenomenal but I think Daveed is below par, although he is so under pressure at the moment he's making forced unforced errors.
On the radio they are making a great point. There was baseball in the nearby stadium played for nearly an hour after the players were called off, I think. Apparently they were called off because CBS didn't want Ferrer to win, or at least put himself in a winning position.

Re: US Open Day 14
You have to have weapons and be able to attack Djokovic to beat him. Just rallying is hopeless.
Nadal had them in the French (and look what happened when the rain soaked away so much pace he lost them!), and Federer had them at Wimbledon.
Ferrer has no weapons full stop. He had a tornado yesterday but that's gone now.

Unfair to say he has no weapons. He has 1 weapon which is making his opponent from side to side and grinding them down. True that he was no trademark power shot, like a Federer forehand or a Murray backhand.

Re: US Open Day 14
Ferrer doesn't have any other versions into his game at all, just this pushing and waiting. Never comes into the net. Pretty hard to beat Djokovic when that's all you can come up with. Tipsarevic should have beat this defender really/

Nole looking much better today. But Andy has far more potential to trouble him than Ferrer does. Nole-Andy final would have a great potential, too bad I would not be able not see it (fifth year running too )

Even when Djokovic is being pulled from side to side (which isn't often at the moment) he moves so well like he is exerting minimum effort to get to the ball.

Adv Ferrer. Tennis too often favouring boring defense. Djokovic needs to be more patient. He's too much up and down.

Ferrer's problem at the moment is he was not hitting with any depth. Now he started doing it it was making Djokovic get drawn into uncomfortably long rallies and you can tell when he has had enough of it as he punts it long.

He sits back and waits for errors/tiredness. I can see you want tennis to be boring defensive push fests.

Wow, that's very strange. Who knows where this semi final would be now if they'd played another hour yesterday. However I don't buy into the CBS conspiracy.

Not quite the mental fortress he was last year. There's something haunting him on court at the moment, I wonder what it is.

I know it drives me mad when players do that. Your preparation should be good enough that when you step onto court you are on your own.

Of course they'd never admit it but the people on the radio said the nightmare was a Berdych v Ferrer final.

Re: US Open Day 14
Murray wants them to play as long as possible, Djokovic didn't want to play in wind, only Ferrer of those 3 wanted to play on. Typical of authorities to listen only to the big names.Danny_1982 wrote:The Special Juan wrote:

That was a very tired/resting game by Ferrer. Followed by a tired game by Djokovic. I guess the pace couldn't stay up for long.

It is a pet hate of mine. Murray drives me mad when he does it!!!
Also when Djokovic is on a big point on his serve he bounces the stuffing out of the ball!
Other than that a wonderful player.

Regardless of the outcome Ferrer's done well. He was seeded 4th and was expected in the semis, and he's lived up to that.

Ferrer has done well agree there TSJ. His game is too rigid to more superior players on the hard stuff in Federer, Murray and Djokovic.
