Don't know how true this is but if it turns out to be correct surely the WBO must win an award for worst governing body.

Imagine marquez beats Pacquiao, and then goes on to face someone like Amir Khan. Khan beats Marquez somehow and becomes CHAMPION OF THE DECADE.

I have said it before but I actually welcome things like this, I genuinely believe the sport needs to reach such a point of ridiculousness that someone be it fans, fighters promoters or TV companies or a mix of all say enough is enough, would like to think this could be the straw that breaks the camels back but I seriously suspect it will not be.

Bearing in mind these guys have fought at three different weights against each other, is the the FW, SFW, WW or catchweight champion of the decade? Will the WBO introduce this illustrious title to all weight classes? And can boxing turn itself into anymore of a marginalised, incomprehensible farce?

Do you really think Manny will ever say "oh I feel so priviaged to win the WBO fighter of the Decade Belt" without an embarrasing look on his face?? haha

..and yet no-one wants Audley to fight on as they believe it makes a mockery of boxing. Perhaps Audley should fight for the "WBO HW Champion of the Decade" belt against Holyfield and we can all go to our graves knowing the world couldn't get any stupider...even WITH Waingro in it!

If it's just a WBO piece of ingenuity, then does that mean that we'll soon see Nathan Cleverly rightly crowned as Light-Heavyweight champion of the Decade when he rematches and beats Tommy Karpency?

Clev shouldn't even have to bother with fights in order to be crowned "Fighter of the Decade" I gather Warren is going to raise this at a meeting next week.

I was expecting a discussion about Lennox Lewis or Roy Jones Junior with that title... how shocked am I that the WBO have sanctioned something so stupid?

On the plus side... Expect Nathan Cleverly to be awarded the title so the WBO Regular belt is up for grabs between a Polish Plumber and a Slovakian Van driver in the near future.

I'm even more shocked that established fighters will pay sanctioning fees for this joke. Does a belt really mean that much?

Well, realistically it's to do with promoters having to grease the palms of the sanctioning bodies, keep them happy, keep paying the bribes, so that the major promoters that can afford it can control the rankings. Pretty much what Don King was doing in the 80's and 90's is still happening in my opinion, it's too obvious, especially with the likes of Warren and the WBO. This is all of course not fact, just my personal assessment of what could be happening. (It is)
