So Peterson is back for his first fight since beating Khan.
Up against Kendall Holt and it turns it out he still holds the IBF LWW belt.

So this is a world title fight for one of the major belts and it went to purse bids...

The winning bid was $50,000.
Split 75-25, Peterson will pick up $37,500

The article says they will make more than this but British title fights generate bigger guarantees!

I'm staggered by this, does that seem like a tiny amount of money to anyone else?

It does mate. When bids like that get placed i get confused as to how a boxer earns a living. After tax, a training camp and a sanctioning fee he'll probably be in debt.

Certainly a piffling amount by world title fight standards, but it does happen like that every now and then. I believe that one of Judah's recent fights (might have been against Mabuza, but don't take that as gospel) couldn't garner enough interest to avoid purse bids, and as the fight still didn't arouse much interest then the pair of them had to split $50,000 between them as the purse.

Holt was a decent banger in his pomp, but his day has passed and Peterson should get through this with his world title intact. He'll be earning reasonably enough again soon, I'd imagine.

penuts compared to mayweather or somebody, but hey even taking fees out i bet he takes 20,000 away- not a bad nights work, please tv deals, sponsers, tv money etc, there will be enough to go round.

im not suprised either, peterson may well fail another test, and his reputation is rock bottom.

'recognised belt' but not a recognised champ as the result should have been declared NC and his belt stripped.

Paper champ or not..He's IBF champion....and it's a sought after belt.

I think the debacle has substantially devauled it, completely undermining the brand, and the purse supports that.

Specifically the 140lb IBF title means nothing.

Whoever gave him the drugs must be kicking himself now seeing as he gets paid bus fare money now. A clean rematch with Khan would have gained him $1.5m. Wouldn't surprise me if Holt beat him up as his mind could be elsewhere.

We talked about this with Alex Arthur tonight on the podcast (what do you mean you havent listened yet?) and he thought it was hilarious!

He's been on the shelf for 14 months, don't tell me he went into hiding by choice.

Yes he made a mistake with the testosterone pellet etc.

But I think Khan's comments irked the IBF and they didn't strip Petersen for that reason.

Khan insulted them, they didn't overturn the loss into a NC. IBF somewhat got their revenge.

Back to Petersen, whether the title is tainted/lower ranked due to his PED, it's not Petersen's fault he still has the belt.

I think this is Peterson's "lesson" for taking PEDs. He's supposedly a world title holder, but as shown by the pathetic purse bids, nobody cares.

But he wasn't the one that put it in the trash can in the first place. Nor was the organisation.

It is the organisation that have cheapened the belt, by not stripping it from KP, therefore the stink lingers long after Peterson has gone. It'll take a top superstar that's massively popular with fans and geeks alike winning it outright to replenish the credibility. Maybe Broner in a couple of years. Maybe.

1) Only the SAC can change the actual result, all the boards can do is strip belts.

2) He could give it up. Ergo he's jointly to blame.
