Points Spy - Australian Open!!!

Hello!!!

Your eyes are not deceiving you! It really is I, Cogen... I have risen from the ashes! muahahahahaha! (I hope people remember who I am, or I'm gonna sound like an arse. )

I hope all you old-timers from 606 are doing well, and have been enjoying the amazing couple of years tennis we've witnessed since I used to regularly frequent the 606 boards.

So... As a spur of the moment kinda thing, a couple of days ago I decided to re-launch my Points Spy series for this season! I've been using it as a project to help develop my Javascript skills, of which I knew virtually nothing about before I started. For the last 2 days, I sunk in quite a few hours building my site from the ground up, and I've come up with something I'm now ready to show you guys... although it's by no means the finished article!

I've purchased a fancy domain name, but it's not up and running yet, so you'll need to access my website directly from my hosting servers. The board are being picky and telling me I'm not allowed to post links for 7 days after joining... so I'll try and beat the system... http (colon slash slash) pointsspy (dot) host-ed (dot) me ... Hopefully someone can figure that out and post it in the comments below?!

I'm not an artistic genius by any stretch of the imagination, but I think it looks fairly smart.

Please let me know if you experience any display issues. I've been testing it in Google Chrome, but I have't done much bug checking with IE or Firefox.

At the moment, there's not very much to do except... look... and you can also click the players names to bring up a (rather empty) profile. There is a slider bar on the profile which allows you to adjust the points a player might win, for your own personal interest. At the moment, this slider bar doesn't update the main table and shift the positions around, but pretty soon it will. :-)

Have bad news about duggietoo, he was apparently very ill last year, haven't seen him post since then.

Nice to see you back Cogen. I only posted rarely on the old 606, but I remember you and your Points Spy! summerblues has been doing an admirable job in the meantime, but the site looks great.

On the subject of duggie I did oddly notice a poster called duggie2 posting on a Andy Murray thread on the BBC Sport blogs/forums they open to discuss reports.

Wasn't Duggie2 an alleged imposter? I think a Duggie2 also posted here, and was thought to be perhaps an imposter hijacking the name.

Hi Cogen. It is a bit harsh on Summer Blues who already did the AO article Points Spy which is still even on the first page of articles. However if you are going to do a solid job like in the past I think Summerblues will probably not need to continue with the articles and would defer to you, or post links to your website?

Oh, ! I didn't realise Summer Blues was continuing my work, but that is great to hear!

Please, don't let me encroach on anyone's territory! SB should continue what he (she?) is doing!

I won't be writing up articles explaining how different outcomes could impact the rankings, like I did in the past. Rather, my aim is to provide a set of tools to allow anyone to find out what they want to know on the fly.

I'm sure SB's written article would continue to be appreciated on the forum.

Hello Cogen. Apologies for stealing your idea while you were away - at least you see how popular it was

I was doing this on a different forum last year and I was planning to stop (I do it semi-manually and it is fair bit of effort, and there is a good site that already does it anyway - http://live-tennis.eu/) but nitb convinced me to do it for the AO (and amri then convinced me to port it to this forum too).

So, if you do not mind, I will finish the AO but beyond that I was not really planning to do it anyway.

BTW, the site I mentioned does a very good job but it is not quite as pretty as your layout nor does it give any extra info about players as far as I know.
