Melrose 7's
Anyone else watching the 7's?
Some impressive players on show.
Just saw Marcus Di Rollo. He's not one of them.

Yeah, I'm watching - Clermont looking very very tidy.
Did I just see Scott Wight playing for Aberdeen?

Re: Melrose 7's
Melrose looked a bit complacent against watsonians. For the sake of a local club winning it this year, I hope they pick it up

His draft team. Must be strange for the melrose crowd seeing their talisman of the past 5 years playing for someone else...

Yeah, wondered what Wight was going playing for AGS, still nice to see us into the 1/4s!
Re: Melrose 7's
1 pro side down, well done Ayr, but theyll have to up their game even further against saracens/clermont.

Impressive win by ayr. They could be in with a shout. Think they have clermont in their half of the draw though.

Great, thanks fellas, was having some problems with the I player but the link above has worked. Not to up to date with club rugby in Scotland unfortunately. Anyone I should be keeping an eye out for?

Re: Melrose 7's
Doc, James Fleming (No.6) for Aberdeen is pretty good, as well as Scott Wight. Fraser Thomson (of Glasgow Warriors, now) is on for Melrose.
Clermont are looking very good - their number 14 (Saint... something) has got some serious gas.
In terms of format, I really hope the Commonwealth and Olympic Games follow the example of Melrose - straight knock-out format, without groups, etc. It means the pressure is on throughout the competition, and gives minnow teams the opportunity to really upset the apple cart if the big boys aren't concentrating.

the problem with it at melrose though is that the minnows just cant compete with most of the invitational sides. The only time weve really seen one of the club sides stand up was when melrose won it two years ago when they had a golden generation of Wight, Dalziel, King, Thomson, Anderson, Nagle etc.

Forward pass by a mile. Evens up the earlier clermont try that shouldn't have been given.
Well done sarries though

Re: Melrose 7's
Really enjoyable 7s and Ayr and AGSFP both did well. There's some players in Scotland who the pro teams should be developing rather than the usually very average imports.

Re: Melrose 7's
It was noticeable how much better the two pro teams were at the breakdown, they were able to steel so much ball.
Also, surprised that Andy Saull was allowed to play for the Sarries 7s team.
Final was a bit damp as the fans weren't really that bothered about the finalists.
Great day though.

He was rapid and had a great step on him, sometimes looked for glory rather than distributing, so essentially a typical winger.

Re: Melrose 7's
yeah would back that up about Nick Tomkins, looked very sharp and skillful but could have done with trying to give the pass instead of doing it all himself. The big 2nd row that played for Saracens Tom Jubb? looked impressive too, great engine on him for being 6"6

Re: Melrose 7's
Jubb was the sarries captain no? Good 7's player. Very good infact.
Totally agree that there were boys on show at the 7's that the pro teams should be looking at instead of the keek they have been wasting money on such as Atiga
