Confederations Cup - Page 7 Empty Confederations Cup

First topic message reminder :

Just kicked off and Neymar has scored a wonder goal to kick the competition off. A very good way of proving some doubters wrong I suppose.

how many players in this current team would get in the 2006 team?

2006 team v Portugal:

Robinson, Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Hargreaves, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, J Cole, Rooney.

2013 best team IMO:

Hart, Johnson, Jagielka, Cahill, Cole, Gerrard, Wilshere, Walcott, Young, Rooney, Carroll.

Together that would be:

Hart, Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, 2013 Cole, 2013 Gerrard, Wilshere, Beckham, J Cole, 2013 Rooney, Carroll.

6 from 2013 and 5 from 2006. That's how many. thumbsup

Gerrard certainly is, Euro 2012 was a fantastic tournament for him. I'd say Cole is better now as well through his greater experience.

Try and get your grammar right before calling someone an idiot.

For future reference, 'you're' not 'your'. See the difference?

Let's face it, Duty is like one of those religious fundamentalists. He "believes" in England. If Jose Mourinho chose a team of the 11 best players in the world right now including Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta, Kompany, Falco etc, Duty would "believe" England would beat them. You just can't reason with people like that.

Er...no I don't think I would sorry.

If Germany were to play England tomorrow, I'd reckon they'd beat us.

I honestly can't tell if Duty281 is serious with his comments or if he's just a troll.
I'm guessing the latter. I mean, nobody could be that dumb.

I'd like to know why Duty thinks England is so great. They are in a fairly easy group and they are clinging on to an automatic qualification spot. If you compare to the likes of Netherlands, Belgium and Italy who are in much tougher groups, they are very comfortable. How many of the England first team are wanted by the big clubs in Europe? If they are the second best international team in the world, surely their players would be coveted by the likes of Barca, Madrid and Bayern. To me it just doesn't add up logically.

I will tell you, sir, that many of our players do play for the big clubs in Europe. You just have to look a bit closer to home for those big clubs, which are Manchester United and Chelsea. Now, England's players stemming from those clubs are:

Cole, Cahill, Lampard, Jones, Carrick, Rooney, Smalling, Cleverley, Welbeck, and Zaha.

Then you look at the two outsider English clubs for Europe: Manchester City and Arsenal. Both of these will also be looking to go far in the Champions League next season, and England players from there will be:

Hart, Lescott, Milner, Rodwell, Oxlade, Walcott, and Wilshere.

So that's 17 players playing for clubs who's minimum aim next season, in all probability, will be to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Then consider the players from Tottenham, Everton, and Liverpool, whose clubs finished 5th, 6th, and 7th in the most competitive league in the world. Some of these players will also have European experience:

Defoe, Walker, Caulker, Dawson, Parker, Lennon, Huddlestone, Baines, Jagielka, Osman, Johnson, Gerrard, Sterling.

And add in Andy Carroll, a proven goalscorer getting a lot of first-team football at West Ham.

I think we shall do fine, it's a very strong squad, and if everyone steers clear of injury it will probably be the strongest since 1966. We're going to win the world cup next year, of that I have no doubts. Every single element is fused together perfectly, it's a team, not a bunch of individuals.
