Murrayshall course - Perthshire
Just booking up today for a golfing weekend to Murrayshall House with a group of friends for the end of August. Just wondering if anyone has played the courses there, and if so, what did you think of them ?
Cheers.

Get buggies if you can. It can be a long slog.

I always wonder at the logic in asking how the courses are when the weekend has already been booked.

I was wondering that myself. If we had slated it would they change the booking?
By the way I have never played the course.

Maybe the OP has done some research and has only popped onto 606v2 for some friendly chat on how the courses might play etc? Like is there anything to watch out for?
Sheesh.

Ahh that sounds better, i knew something had gone wrong when I agreed with LJ.
I like to research the history of a course before I play it, always a joy to find one of your favourite architects has carried out some work.

Not so much this one... but you do get a lot of it after the booking has been made. I recall once when everyone slated the place some guy had booked and he said oh well. We're going there anyway.
Very confusing.

Queens Park in bournemouth as the host for the Bournemouth Open 36 hole Scratch event. At least that's the plan.
After that it will be Broadstone as a guest of a very kind member who has invited me to his members guest day.
And I might sneak in a round at Abridge should I be able to sneak a day off between now and then.

Mac considering it is a qualifying course for the Open and one that I have played many times before I am very aware of it's playing credentials.

Only kidding LJ, although it does look like a parkland nightmare for me.

I actually think you'd enjoy it. Whilst it's obviously not links it would hit a lot of your plus points.
The water that there is on the course is rarely en route to the hole so you don't have to play over it. It has lots of run off areas around the greens so you have to be able to recover well. The holes run in different directions and have huge elevation changes. And it has a good mix of lengths for each type of hole.
If it were a linksland track you'd be singing it's praises. As it is there are trees lining every hole instead of gorse.

True. More often than not its some boozy weekend they've booked and the course is an afterthought! You can bet they've done the research on the boozers!

RE - Murrayshall
Not a bad course, the old course is certainly better than the new which works its way up the side of a huge hill, a few not bad holes, buggy definitely required. If you are staying at the hotel, its only a few miles from Perth for a night out. Depending your budget, Blairgowrie is about 12 miles away and is far better, you'll probably get a decent twilight rate at that time of year.

Spiff,
A buggy is certainly not required at Murrayshall unless you resemble Shane Lowery, in which case you should immediately go on a diet and exercise regime and give yourself 50 lashes for allowing yourself to get in such shape and a further 50 for considering a buggy.

Super have you played the new course?!? Its a bit of a climb, certainly not physically beyond me but definitely no fun. Plus its not worth the effort IMHO.
