The 606v2 all time test XI - openers Empty The 606v2 all time test XI - openers

Right ho everyone, given how the cricket section of this forum has taken off recently I think it's about time to follow the lead from the rugby section and do a series of polls to elect our all time test XI.

Starting at the top, with the opening batsmen. Openers of course play an important role. In test matches, it's their job to see off the new ball, and set the platform for the innings to be built around. Great opening pairs throughout history include Hobbs and Sutcliffe for England, Greenidge and Haynes for the West Indies and more recently Langer and Hayden for Australia. So who would be your choice to open for an all time test XI? Have I missed anyone out?

Put Sehwag in for the way he can take the game away from the other team. His strike-rate is amazing. He isn't my choice but I think his record is good enough to warrant inclusion on the list.

My vote goes too Gavaskar and Hobbs.

I can see why Sehwag is mentioned though he has the ability to get a quick hundred which can change the whole concept of the match.Brilliant to watch too.

Sehwag cannot bat on a wet or a seaming grassy wicket for toffee. It has to be Hobbs and Hutton for me.

But test match cricket a lot of the time isn't about getting quick hundreds like is the case in the crash bang wallop fast food cricket of T20/ODI formats.

Certainly helps though, especially when he can get 200 in one day of Cricket. His average of 53 also proves that he can quick runs but not get out much while trying.

If he was I'd go for him and Hobbs, the greatest opening partnership in test history!
