World Cup of Clubs to take place on Feb 2nd?

Not so sure if it's been covered, but apparently Super 15 winners the Chiefs and HEC winners Toulon have agreed the date.

It's a good idea and something most rugby fans would like to see. I just don't see Toulon as much of a French team. So this time around it feels like Chiefs versus Barbarians.

Well, as this fixture would clash with the 6Ns, no French internationals would be available any way.

You can't call toulon barbarians. They have had the main part of their team for a couple of years now. They are a well drilled team that is as good as an national side.

Agree with them losing few players and with the chiefs coming at it cold you would have to feel toulon would take it.

Would the ERC do this to show what would be lost if it disappears. No other organisation unless they represent all the 6unions could make it happen.

Also look who they have added while the chief's captain has gone to the might Connacht. That really sums it up.

This match won't happen. Instead Boujedall will pay 379 million euros to buy the title of worlds best club before announcing that Toulon are to buy all of the Chiefs players for a fee of 634 million euros with each being given a salary of 2 million euros a season.

Can't see how the Chiefs will want t play their first match of the season against Toulon as the world championship trophy if they haven't even had a warmup game

Match means nothing if it isn`t over two legs Home advantage in each case is too much.Incidentally what happens 2014 Southern Kings or Lions the 5th SA Franchise?

Looks like it's pretty meaningless. 6 nations is on that weekend so presumably Toulon will lose the odd player. It pre season for the chiefs and in Europe and everything that implies. So I'm guessing a number of all blacks wont be unavailable, and they wont send a full team. It sounds a bit like leagues world club championship.

Alan the Lions won on aggregate by 2 points. So they are back next year.

By the way they thumped the Bulls by 60-22 this past weekend.

I guess we need that 'Global season' for this to be a regular success. The ERC might not agree to it yet btw.

Could the ERC block it?  They control (for now) european club competition.  But this would be a french club playing a non-european side.
The only way I could see the ERC getting stuck in is if it was going to be and agreement between the SuperXV and ERC to hold a champions of champions fixture.  As it is a once off, it could easily be set up as a friendly and advertised as HC vs SXV in the media.

They can't stop the game but they can stop it being officially the game between European Champion (which is a false term anyway as the competition isn't open to all of Europe) and S15 champion. It would have to be just a game between Toulon and the S15 champion.
