Mayweather Called Out - Page 2 Empty Mayweather Called Out

Post by mobilemaster8 Wed 18 Sep 2013, 7:23 am

First topic message reminder :

Bit of a random read for reputable sources claim that Bernard Hopkins has called out Floyd Mayeather for a fight on may 3rd next year.

He has stated he will get down to 160lbs for the weigh in at MW.

Very very random but what are your thoughts on this??

I think that the biggest disadvantage for a fight between mayweather and hopkins at 160 would be against mayweather. Yes hopkins would have to lost 15lbs but against canelo at 152 mayweather weighed in at 150 lbs and on fight night was 152. Hopkins would robably weigh in anywhere from 170-180 on fight night against mayweather, a possible 30lbs weight advantage
Ever tried to lose 15-20lbs lean muscle??

If you reckon that's doable with no detrimental effects then fair play to you.
The fight would be in May 2014 so he would have 9 months to get to 160lbs
He already has a fight scheduled in a few months time. He weighs 188lbs in the ring these days. He would have to lose about 30lbs and still manage to be effective at a weight he outgrew many years ago at an age when keeping weight off is a challenge in itself.

The whole thing smacks of a publicity soundbite because he has an unsellable fight on the horizon that everybody and their dog knows will stink to high heaven. I think he figures if he say he will fight Mayweather a few extra people might actually give a damn about his next fight.

If it did happen who would win? Hopkins would weigh on fight night anything from 170-180 and would be 6ft 1 whilst mayweather would weigh 152 on fight night and would be 5ft 7.

And after Money Man wins people will call him a ducker for not fighting Ward.

He just isn't big enough for MW. Barely big enough for WW.

It's not a case of having plenty of time. Losing 15/20 lb of muscle is a very very hard thing to do.

All it'd take for me would be a circumcision.

At 6'0 200lbs, I think I would be Floyds greatest physical challenge ever. So where do I sign up?

Oscar came from super featherweight world champ to fighting Hopkins.

You could never question Oscar's ambition.

It's a fair comparison I suppose. Although not as talented as Floyd, he has clearly taken on the better fighters. Give Floyd his desire and we may well have a top 10 fighter on our hands.

how does having 9 months to do it make it any less detrimental??

Because you can lose the weight over a longer period of time making it safer and giving your body more time to adapt. If someone gave me 3 months to lose 15lbs or 9 months I know that the 9 month period would be easier, I could diet better, it wouldn't be a crazy diet like it would have to be for 3 months.

I could have 9 years to lose 15 lb and short of starving myself I couldn't do it. Hopkins won't be making 160 in a healthy state.

Exactly.

Lean doesn't just fall away like fat with no detrimental effect.

He fought Hopkins at a catchweight closer to Light Middleweight than Middleweight, something you'd be slating Floyd for if he tried with Martinez to get a fight at 156lbs. Also pretty sure Hopkins was older then than Martinez is now but no doubt Floyd would be picking on the elderly if a fight with Martinez happened.
