Twitter?

Was just wondering what you all thought of setting up a 606v2 American Football twitter account, though it may be easier if it was called 606v2AF. The idea has been pretty much stuck in my head since Leedscowboys had managed to ask Jason La Canfora about the possibility of a shut down. It could be a good way to get experts views on rumours, plus there are already accounts set up for Golf, Rugby and Wrestling which seem to be working well. Rugby has only been up for a short while and they have already had the site retweeted by a few professional players, and for some reason Peter Jones from dragons den, which all helps with publicity I believe Golf and Wrestling have also managed to get the site retweeted. Plus Rugby have managed to get a Q&A with Marcel Garvey, while I know Wrestling have managed to get a couple too. So it could be a useful way to raise awareness of the board, and we can use it get the “experts” opinions on topics we are discussing, not sure how successful we would be with getting Q&A session’s but it’s a possibility.

I'm setting one up now!

Only joking, go ahead I'd suggest finding Rich Eisen he follows quite a few players, and most the rest of the NFL total access team, then the players seem to follow quite a few of the other players, like some of the rookies are tweeting the other rookies.

Already got Schefter, the QBKILLA Warren Sapp, Vick, Westbrook, Clay Matthews, this thing is great!

Also I don't get how we get someone to do a Q&A with us, do we just ask them on twitter? Maybe we should ask those who are running the other 606v2 accounts how they got the Q&A's.

That's strange Manning-to-Manningham, it should work because I'm currently on it. If you just search 606v2, then some of our tweets should come up.

To answer that question is difficult!

I have managed to get a rugby player to agree and I have posted a thread asking for questions on here and 606 (to generate interest in the site too).
I believe that you can PM on twitter as well - so that may be the way to either get a email address from him to send them to or alternatively drop them the questions on the PM (not sure how big PMs can be on there).

The final option is to get them to join here and PM the questions or get them to answer directly on the thread.

I've tweeted LarryFitzgerald, ochocinco and GregJennings for a retweet to try and spread the 606v2 word to the states.

Thanks Hobo I guess me and Pr4wn will just have to get tweeting some people asking for a Q&A. Just checked the PM's have a limit of 140 characters, so they'll be a good way to get an email address but not so good for sending the questions through, and we would have to ask them to follow us as you can only PM people who follow you.

Not using Twitter (tie being the primary reason), and not sure I'm that motivated to. However, anyone know if any college and/or NFL coaches tweet? I wouldn't mind some free coaching tips.

I know we're following Pete Carroll atm, not sure of others.

I'll search for the other NFL head coaches, can't promise anything though Skins.

Got Jim Schwartz and Pete Carroll. Not yet searched for Ken Whisenhunt, Steve Spagnuolo or Jim Harbaugh because I apparently hit our hourly usage limit. I think the UFL head coaches have twitter feeds if you want me to try and find them? Aslo guys if you want us to ask any of the people we are following something just put the question in here, and we'll try to ask them.

Skins - I joined twitter a year or so back on the misguided belief that I'd learn something useful from people within the game, what I actually learnt is what the players had for breakfast and what they're doing on their day off, I found it all a bit of a self publicity exercise.
I have no problem with the 2m people who follow Chad Ochocinco and enjoy reading what he eats in his favourite Spanish restaurant, or how many rows Warren Sapp can have with air stewardesses, I just find it all a bit 'look at me I'm famous'.
You certainly won't learn anything useful - only the likes of Adam Schefter will put up the occasional interesting piece of contract news or trade news.
Apologies for sounding like a killjoy I hope you boys enjoy using twitter, though I'm not sure what you gain from the odd retweet and there's definitely no insight into the life of NFL players.

The idea is that the retweets will boost popularity of the site. The more people we have here, the beter the quality of the debate.

That's fine Grizzly I'm not expecting loads from it, I'm just hoping we can maybe get a few interesting bit of news, and hopefully if we either get our tweets replied too or get some retweeted we might be able to boost the popularity of the site.

How does that work Pr4wn ?
A retweet is nothing more than an acknowledgement as I understand it, if you managed to get them following you then yes the thousands/millions who follow them will be influenced to research the site

If we're retweeted then, as far as I understand at least, those following the player will see our site address and hopefully pay us a visit.

derby - very unlikely you'll ever get a reply I'm afraid, and as I said the only news you'll get will be from NFL presenters/media.
Those who know me from the old 606 site will know I'm a gambler so i joined twitter thinking I'd pick up some team news, injury info etc, nothing comes from players at all, I reverted back to old research means after about week 10 last season
