What if......
Floyd loses his next fight? Should his ATG rankings fall accordingly even though he is 37 and most boxers at that age who are in the ATG rankings were either retired or finished as top class boxers.

Re: What if......
Of course not.......Can't think of any other boxer who has reached 37 and been unbeaten with 16 years at the top.......
A phenomenal feat without chucking in 130-154 and five p4pers.........

Yeah but you know what his detractors would say if the unthinkable happens.

Re: What if......
It depends a lot on his next fight and the manner of it. Legacy is a hard thing to rate in the now. The only possibility of him losing in my mind is at middleweight fighting Martinez or ggg, at an unrestricted 160lb. On current form I'd still make him a heavy favourite. But if he did lose in that fashion, it wouldn't take anything away from his legacy in my mind.
It would only add, because he'd have dared to be even greater.

Re: What if......
It shouldn't but I could see him dropping a couple of places. Bearing in mind at the top of the pile it's fine margins that split fighters. He wouldn't go down in all lists but I'm sure a few would push him down. On the flip side I do feel that no matter how high the quality of his remaining fights any wins should go towards pushing him up the list due to his age.

Re: What if......
Wouldn't lose any of his lustre for me. The only way it could harm his standing badly with his biggest critics would be if he went down a similar path to Roy, a seriously steep, shocking and sudden decline. But if / when Mayweater does hit that slope (I think he is past his absolute peak in any case) I reckon it'll be more like the one Pernell experienced, not Roy.

Re: What if......
Depends who it is. If he loses to Khan he takes a hit of sorts but if he loses to Martinez/Golovkin then not a jot.
Re: What if......
Do we need another Mayweather fanboy thread that consists of one sentence?

Come on Hammersmith, he put a lot of effort into that sentence. He deserves a bit of credit for that at least.
Re: What if......
Nothing about being a fanboy. He is the only active boxer who can challenge the gods of boxing. The same could have applied to manny were it not for the shocking loss to JMM.

I'd say it's more down to the fact we've had 20 million of these threads posted recently, nothing new to add to the debate.

I agree, this thread could have just been posted as a post on the countless other mayweather threads.Hammersmith harrier wrote:I'd say it's more down to the fact we've had 20 million of these threads posted recently, nothing new to add to the debate.

Maybe you should add an opinion as regards to the thread than just coming around to pop at posters like you do these days.....Champagne_Socialist wrote:I agree, this thread could have just been posted as a post on the countless other mayweather threads.Hammersmith harrier wrote:I'd say it's more down to the fact we've had 20 million of these threads posted recently, nothing new to add to the debate.
You can add to debates you have shown this.......But you are underselling yourself lately and you're better than this kind of "emancipator" bollox..
Hope the physique is coming on..

Re: What if......
Mayweathers achievements are phenomenal if he lost his next fight, then one bad night at the office shouldn't make a difference to his ATG.
Mayweathers only problem is he was born in the wrong era, would have loved to have seen him in late 80s in some super fights, but so far ahead in this era his out of sight.

This 16 years at the top phrase is a load of nonsense. Come on Truss, you can do better than that.

I'd bet at least half of your posts are simply trying to put other down.
You're a mere irrelevance, with 20k posts of utter gash.

Re: What if......
Have to agree with this......People forget that 37 year old fighters are expected to lose especially at the lower weights..........88Chris05 wrote:Wouldn't lose any of his lustre for me. The fact Floyd is number 1 at 37 is truly awe-inspiring.

Floyd would have to meet a fighter that is physically the same size that does a number on him. No room for excuses. I can't see it happening. It could have happened at welter 5 or 6 years ago but it didn't.
Still can't see Floyd going higher than SRL when the dust settles.

Someone told me today that Marciano is the greatest ever HW because he has a zero and Ali doesn't.
The 0 matters, especially with someone who bands it about as much as Mayweather

Re: What if......
Mayweather has invested in being unbeaten as central to his legacy which means he hasnt always taken on the toughest challenges. If he were to lose to someone like Khan chasing a low risk fight and trying to protect his record then his legacy will suffer. If he were to lose to someone like Golovking or Martinez chasing glory then it wouldnt matter a great deal. Im sure Bob Mee could tell you most of the greats have lost fights.

Re: What if......
Chasing glory? By fighting an unproven middleweight or by fighting a middleweight who should have lost against Martin Murray?
Are you on another planet?
It should be Martinez coming down in weight to fight Floyd in a fight that will define HIS legacy, not mayweathers.

Re: What if......
Catchweight seems to be under the mistaken belief that Floyd is a middleweight. You know Mayweather is not even a particularly big WW right?
Why should he have to purposefully handicap himself by being outweighed by 20+lbs in the ring? Hes the big name, hes the man to beat anywhere between 140-154. Its not his fault he is so much better than the chasing pack.

Perfectly put, Joey.
Mayweather is just that much better than the Khans, Bradleys, Pacquiaos, JMM's of the world and the fans that don't really like him ie. catchweight, well they rely on Floyd fighting a heavier fighter in order for him to lose.
Never going to happen.
