sky commentry
I watched the Marquez Bradley fight this morning after I sky+ it I had Bradley winning by 2 rounds so I thought the right man won. But did anyone else think sky were blatantly biast against Marquez?. Nick Hawling should be fired he really is terrible. Jim Watt makes some good points but I think he misjudges things such as effective aggression does not just consist of walking forward which is something I think Jim often thinks.
What do you guys think?

I think Halling engages mouth before thought........He should be sacked although his performance was okay last night......
Saying Quigg's opponent was a spoiler who didn't deserve to be a world champion was shocking......7-5 at best for quigg
Laughing when the Olympian boy got a knockdown that wasn't......When he hammered the referee in the barker fight for rightly calling one.......
and his blatant over the top bias in fights is truly appalling.......coupled with the sugary x-factor stuff......"He's doing it for his brother"........"He's wanted this since he was a boy"........
Ian Darke is truly missed.

Better to watch it on HBO, Harold Letterman had it 9-3 to Bradley or something like that!! Hows it any different.
Max Kellerman and co ride anyone Bradley is fighting becasue he robbed their beloved Manny.
HBO are just as bad.

Re: sky commentry
They had an agenda last night, Jim Watt was attempting to make it less cringe worthy, but Nick Halling was awful. He was talking like Marquez had just been given a schooling like he did against Mayweather. The right man won and won clearly, but it wasn't as one sided as they made out. The funniest part was when bradley missed with his big right hand and Marquez landed the counter and Halling said Bradley landed the punch....
That was worse than Barry Jones who always has his favourite, but that was on a different level.

yeah I remember that and I also remember them saying Bradley hadn't missed the right hand all night just as that was said he missed with the right handBoxingFan88 wrote:They had an agenda last night, Jim Watt was attempting to make it less cringe worthy, but Nick Halling was awful. I don't have boxnation..........But he does amuse me............
Starling needed a knockout to beat Honeyghan going into the 9th round......
Hagler was on the verge of being stopped by Minter.......
The referee robbed Williams with a premature stoppage against Klitsy......

Agree with the sentiments regarding Halling. Dreadful commentator (or should I say, not to my taste!).
I still find it tricky when I have to try to explain to other boxing fans that I actually like Jim Watt, mind you!

Re: sky commentry
When Halling gets behind one fighter he ignores any punches landed by the opponent. There were some meaty hooks and right-handers landed by Marquez that he simply ignored.

Re: sky commentry
In fairness it was a tricky fight as both fighters were hitting gloves, arms and the air a lot. I felt Bradley had it quite comfortably, and was shocked by the judge that scored it to Marquez.
Don't really pay much attention to the commentators and also quite like the 'X-Factor' stuff when it is a boxer I've not seen before or one I don't know much about. But then as I read a lot of boxing biographies it gives me a little background knowledge on each fighter in much the same way.

Re: sky commentry
Have not watched the fight as i was travelling all day yesterday so couldn't afford to stay up.....was it a good fight? Did it meet the expectations prior to the first bell??
Also, if JMM did land some good shots on Bradley, did he ever look in trouble from the supposed power of JMM?
If not, then is it safe to say Pacmans chin could have faltered??
I know he got hit by a perfect shot, but when he got knocked down in the third it was a flash knockdown.....provdovnikov had Bradley all over the place.
Has rios got a chance??

He rarely connected cleanly so it was hard to gauge. A couple got through towards the end but I think a lot of the power would have gone by then, Bradley was very slippery and fought a good fight.mobilemaster8 wrote:Have not watched the fight as i was travelling all day yesterday so couldn't afford to stay up.....was it a good fight? Re: sky commentry
think this bit was the key and what wound me up the most, bradley hit arms and gloves a lot and the sky team would get all wet, yet nothing when JMM would land.huw wrote:In fairness it was a tricky fight as both fighters were hitting gloves, arms and the air a lot. Re: sky commentry
Commentary is there to make it sound more exciting though, hard to point out the 6 scoring punches in a round and make it sound interesting. I appreciated the clever defensive work from both fighters but that isn't something that gets the more casual fans excited.compelling and rich wrote:think this bit was the key and what wound me up the most, bradley hit arms and gloves a lot and the sky team would get all wet, yet nothing when JMM would land.huw wrote:In fairness it was a tricky fight as both fighters were hitting gloves, arms and the air a lot. They were probably just expecting most of their audience to be a little drunk and not notice the lack of actual scoring shots. Or maybe they had a tipple or two before they started commentating!
Commentating must be a tricky job as they have to cater for all types of audience and this means that they will dumb down what they are seeing so people with little interest in boxing can follow and understand it which tends to infuriate the more knowledgeable fans.
I agree with you that the commentary is generally poor but think it would be tough to have it any other way. Maybe we could suggest a fanzone type thing on the red button where we could have some of the people from here doing an alternate commentary, as it is my suggestion I think I should be able to choose the people, could be hilarious!

Re: sky commentry
not sure many casual fans were going to stay up till 4am for bradley v jmm
i had a fair few more than a tipple and could see the shots. i dont mind trying to build excitement from real events but at points they were just making stuff up!

Agree Whellchair. I had Tim winning but close on the cards. The Sky team extremely pro-Tim.
Nothing new though as Mayweather and Manny are normally brown-nosed by the commentary team.
