**UPDATE**UPDATE** ABDUSALAMOV BACK ON LIFE SUPPORT

More news today, as Mago's promoter Samson Lewcowicz stated that he remains optimistic for Mago's survival.

He has now remained in an induced coma for 14 days following his fight and has had both exploration and debulking of clot and a hemicraniectomy to reduce subsequent swelling.  His promoter also announces that he has suffered a stroke whilst in ITU, which he attributes secondary to an extreme temperature, greater than 40 degrees Celsius.  He remains intubated and will be awoken from his coma at some point over the next week, where his neurological recovery will be evaluated fully.

Russian Heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov was successfully weaned from a ventilator and awoken from the artificial coma, in New York today.  Having been awoken, he was able to open his right eye and move his right foot, however, early reports suggest that he remains in a critical condition, he remains in a vegetative state with no indication as to his likely functional outcome and no indication as to the function of the left hand side of his body.

However, he is no longer on complete "life support", which is an improvement.

It is likely that Mr Abdusalamov will be severely disabled by this episode, requiring significant care needs.  As mentioned before, should anyone feel an urge to donate to a fund to support him or others among the >1800 boxers seriously injured or killed since 1980, the link is ring10ny.com

As per ESPN, Mr Abdusalamov has been returned to an artificial coma and a ventilator, following a failed wean from ventilator on Friday.

Hope he pulls through was a way of a fight, wonder how Perez is feeling?

Was hoping for a more cheerful update than this. Here's hoping there's some good news to follow.

This is an interesting read on the events surrounding the fight. There seems to be a lot of bad injuries happening lately and this piece discussing the medical care in place after fights.

Perez can bang and was clocking Mago with solid combos which would have had 90% of the heavyweight division out of there. He should have been pulled after the 6th. I feel his corner is to blame. Its a shame that the best heavyweight fight I had seen in years has been shrouded with all this negativity now.

I hope Mago pulls through and makes a full recovery.

Dan Rafael has just tweeted that he fell back in to a coma not long after he woke up, really hoping he pulls through this.

Think he means that they had to put him back into a coma after a set back... which means maybe its some kind of precaucian or worry they have had...  rather than him falling into a coma him self..

Terrible news, remember watching this fight & the punishment he was receiving. Such a shame. I fear the worst for him, even if he manages to survive this

Can't help but think that in some cases death is the preferable option rather than the likely out come of injuries like this. Nasty piece of work as McClellan might have been, to see such a magnificent athlete reduced to what he is now is heartbreaking .

I stopped watching the fight after the 5th, it was too brutal.
