Beginning of the end of Del Potro?

Juan Martin del Potro has injured his left wrist, subsequently withdrawn during first round match in Dubai, same injury as he had 4 years ago in his right wrist. 


Del Potro has stated surgery maybe the only option.

"I don't feel really well," he said. "My wrist is hurting a lot and everybody knows what happened to me four years ago with my other wrist.

"It was really tough to play today. I tried everything. I cannot be the player I would like to be."

Really sad to hear. I hope he can make a recovery but if it's his other wrist this time then I think he'll struggle. Most players have one dodgy something (wrist, shoulder, knee etc) but two? Worrying.

Interestingly enough Miles Maclaghan thinks the balls could be to blame for Del Potro's wrists talking about their density and the various balls out there which can make if difficult for the pro's

Good to see that del Potty is lining up at IW. Just when it seems he's about to get to the business end of the top 10 he seems to get injured.
Got some points to defend here so will want to get some wins. I remain hopeful of him being a regular top four guy soon.

Del Potro does a lot of it to himself with how he strings his racquet and the tension of his strings. He strings an all poly (no cushioning gut at all) extremely tight. I tried that mix for a month at the end of that month I felt like my arm was going to fall off. I think he needs to change his string tension, maybe even change that forehand and make it less wristy, and he could come back strong.

For me, it's nothing more than the fact DP wants to hit the dye of the things

There's a reason why Roger's still competitive at 32 (or whatever he is) and it ain't because he uses the ball as if it's invaded his country

Tis a pity he's had to pull out and IMHO he would do well to miss Miami if he's not feeling right.

It would be sad if DelPo's career ends due to this. It may behove him to change his style.

600 points from IW finals last year. He will probably drop below Federer.

LF - well according to the number crunchers he WILL drop below Fed, with Rog also passing Berdbrain should he reach the Q-Fs. It's all change-and-change-about in positions 3 to 8 over the next few weeks, methinks.
