Re: a world eleven to beat India in a odi match
Apart from the fact there is no Gayle or Sangakkara a pretty good side, would possibly swap swann and mortaza around in the batting order as well but it would be a good match to watch if these sides ever met.

Decent side but I would have Dale Steyn,AB De Villiers and Brendon Mcculum in mine but apart from that I agree.
Re: a world eleven to beat India in a odi match
Good call on AB and Brendon McCullum but I don't really think that Dale Steyn is consistent enough for my liking.

True but when Steyns on fire he's the best bowler on the planet.

Ok you have another bite:
Khan and Shafiq in the batting line-up, yet no Amla or de Villiers? Swann is the only bowler you have selected in the Worlds top ten.
Of all the wicketkeepers you could have selected you pick a guy who averages less than 20 at a very average strike rate and who has never passed 50 in his 40+ ODI matches.
My team.
Watson
Gayle
Amla
Sangakkara
Morgan
de Villiers
Vettori
Swann
Morkel
Malinga
Steyn

Re: a world eleven to beat India in a odi match
Francois Du Plessis and Chanderpaul?
Du Plessis has only played 10 one-dayers and only averages 30 with the bat and 64 with the bowl.
Chanderpaul isn't renowned for being a one-day player.

Re: a world eleven to beat India in a odi match
Chanderpaul pummells India for fun, maybe its his Indian heritage that gets the blood flowing vs India. And he's plenty good enough at ODIs, average of 41.

Re: a world eleven to beat India in a odi match
Well I was going to say " England" but someone beat me to it.
How about
Watson
ABD
Trott
Sanga
Amla
Sakhib
Vetori
Johnson
Swann
Morkel
Steyn
Thats based on taking top 5 ranked batsmen, top 5 bowlers and top all rounder. Works out pretty well although theres perhaps more bowling than is neccasary.
Whats suprising is how few Australians there are, despite Aus being by way ahead in the team rankings. Which does beg the question why isnt it a "team to take on Austrlia" artcile, depsite not winning the world cup they are still the best ODI side.

Re: a world eleven to beat India in a odi match
Watson - Yes
Gayle - I'd have Kallis/Dilshan
KP(in form) - NO
ABDV(wk) - Not sure on him at wickie for all 50 overs, maybe Sangakkara in with ABDV in the side as well
Morgan - Yes
M Hussey - Definitely
Mathews - Not sure, is he really that good? Maybe someone like Afridi in this position?
Swann - Yes
Malinga - Yes
Steyn - I'd have Gul
Ajmal - Yes
Gayle - I'd have Kallis/Dilshan
KP(in form) - NO

Re: a world eleven to beat India in a odi match
Australia's number 1 ranking is due to the long spell of dominance from 1999-2007, where they won everything. At one point the gap between number and number 2 was around 40 points.Peter Seabiscuit Wheeler wrote:Well I was going to say " England" but someone beat me to it.

Gregers wrote:Wouldn't have Trott mate
I know right but he is the fourthbest rated batsman in the world for ODIs and a bowling option. Gayle is nowhere, yet everyone wants to marry him. I knwo the rankings arent everything but Trott is the guy who lets the others play.
With regard to Autralias ODI ranking its only 2-3 years ( with results ditched every august) that are counted under the new system...the 2003-07 run hasnt counted for a long time. They are a good ODI side.
Team Matches Points Rating

South Africa 19 2197 116

Personally:
Watson
Gayle
Ponting
Sanga
AB
Morgan
Hussey
Swann
Morkel
Malinga
Steyn
Amla unlucky to miss out but Watson and Gayle potentially more destructive and would get through 10 overs between them. Ponting is quality who scores when it matters. Tempted to pick Johnson over Morkel, and possibly Ajmal over Swann (but Swann is a better fielder and batsman).

AB De Villiers doesn't open for SA anymore.

if you are playing only one spinner then surely ajmal over swann any day of the week against india.ajmal's record against india is far better.

Fine, hes openeing for this fantasy side though :P
You could bring in a specalist opener for Sakhib or Morkel if its really that important. Im not sure which of ABD or Sanga would keep wicket either. The pooint is that tehse are the players who are the best according to the rankings.
I wouldnt want Gayle in my side, his attitude is terrible.
