First topic message reminder :

Wilshere out for 6 weeks according to BBC. Hairline fracture on foot. Considering Arsenal have been nursing him through the season because of his ankle injuries I think it would be a risk taking him (not questioning his ability) due to the tight schedule of games.

Owen, are you as concerned as me, that long periods of time spent cramped into a tiny space with little physical activity & in the pressurised environment of a plane cabin, will adversely affect circulation in the blood vessels and the lymphatic system of our players? This could ruin our World Cup chances.

I'm thinking more about the unlimited excuses we will have to endure for abject performances and an early exit afterwards if I'm honest!

And mock all you want with regards to the plane journey, it's not the conditions of the flight but the decision to have the camp in Miami and only fly 5 days before our first game! Makes no sense and less so when you consider they will go from Miami to Rio (9hr) then within 3 days have to fly to Manuas (4hr...approximately 1800 miles). Then back to Rio!

Portugal to England to Miami to Rio to .Manuas to Rio all within the space of 3 and half weeks...add in wherever the players fly back from from holidays and 3 matches in that time..can't tell me preparation is looking great now!!

Well bar Walcott everyone seems fit. We have one of the youngest squads in the comp full of first choice on form squad members bar terry and Walcott.

It looks good.

We've got the right mix of youth and experience.
We've got some quality in the starting XI.
We've got some quality on the bench.
We've got the right manager.

We've got...the World Cup...possibly!

Rooney training hard by the looks of things. Not really a holiday
But Tbh the England squad shouldn't need more than a few days off. This is a once in a lifetime moment.

I am going to.be in the Caribbean during the first 3 games. So duty fly the flag solo pal. I will be back for the first knock out game...

Lampard will be vice-captain during the World Cup. I thought it would have been Rooney or Hart.

I don't mean to worry anyone, but if Gerrard gets injured then it probably means that Lampard is near-enough guaranteed to be in the starting XI!

When asked in what position he can play at the World Cup, Ross Barkley said:

"In behind the striker (is best), but I can play in any of the attacking midfield positions and in central midfield too."

My prediction of Lampard being in the starting XI for the big games not looking so ridiculous anymore!

See Rooney has already had a bit of a whine about the training pitches in Portugal! Not even begun preparation and already we have our first excuse...jesus wept!

we've had roy's excuses two weeks ago, we've had the possible el-nino, we've had the effect of long haul flights on blood vessels, we've got the turned ankles & no doubt injuries to come from these dodgy portuguese pitches (that surely were inspected before hand)  picard

Then we'll have the leaked 'monkey-gate', who did it, being revealed once we land in Miami just to spice things up.

As for Lampard, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no chance of ever, ever, ever starting in these WC games. Roy's using him in the role as the seasoned professional to be happy to be benched & won't moan. He will mentor & look after the youngsters in the off-days to make sure they don't lose their way. The vice-captain announcement is just to make him feel wanted ahead of the WC, it's just a nice ploy by Roy to keep a member of the squad happy.

You would have thought they'd have been ey John...the FA probably booked the facilities 4 years in advance and then didn't bother to continue to check on the condition of them as we neared 2014.

I loved the fact that we booked the team into a hotel which tripadvisor users have only rated as 97th out of 204 hotels in Rio!! Sounds like you need not have much intelligence to work as part of the organising committee for England!

Anyhow; just the Champions League Final, Europa League and Playoff finals to enjoy then the countdown really begins!

The Royal Tulip I believe it is;

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g303506-d299095-Reviews-Royal_Tulip_Rio_de_Janeiro-Rio_de_Janeiro_State_of_Rio_de_Janeiro.html

It has moved up to 91st (perhaps the FA have been logging their ratings to bump it up Wink ) ..has a lovely sewer on the back of it, and whilst it provides nice views...also has rush hour traffic early doors right outside it (though apparently during the quieter summer month of June it won't be so bad...the comments of an FA spokesman who seems to have forgot that something called fans usually flock to a World Cup!!)

I see - one of them business style expensive hotels- which rich people will whinge at..

I love trip advisor- but the ratings are normally based around the type of people that go to the hotel. So many cases best value wins out over expensive that is better- because they expect more,

they would have probably booked out the top floor anyway- so its not like your average booking

Glad you take so much pleasure in us being rubbish

And you wonder why people like me take the anyone but England attitude

That being said you cheered on France against Wales in the 2011 rugby world cup so says it all really

No I supported Wales, at least I did until Warburton tried to break someone's (Clerc?) neck, and the ITV pundits shamelessly excused him.

And no, I don't wonder why people take the anyone but England attitude - it's jealously, obviously.
