Woodward "warns" Lamcaster to not allow players to be distracted, he helpfully distracts from the media....bringing up a host of irrelevancies, idiotic selection recommendations and Stone Age tactics, and of course his timely reminder of all the times he won the World Cup.

Is that the pack you are referring to? It was indeed a very good pack. I'm trying to think of contenders to rival them (in my lifetime):

- NZ circa 1995
- Boks circa 2007
- Eng circa 2001
- Arg circa 2007
- NZ circa 2014

the lions 93 pack was probably the best I've ever seen in terms of dominance... but winterbottom retired thereafter and he wasn't really replaced for perhaps 5 years and then it was a different type of openside in Back.

In 91 it wasn't as strong as people thought... AUS were easily a match for them upfront. Better then everyone else sure but the backs were inferior to the Aussies by quite a margin... AUS were easily a better side in the early 90s.

Come 95 had the world cup been played in Europe they may have stood a better chance but upfront SA were very strong and the backrow of Rodber, Clarke and Richards had its limitations. Only worked if you could boss a side in the pack and whilst Ubogu was a great strike runner he and Moore were rather small when you think Os Du Randt was 19st already aged 21.

Had they been able to replace winterbottom in 93 I think they may have stood a chance but to be fair, I don't think England have ever found an openside of his quality since... 20 years later.
