2016-17 season - Page 2 Empty 2016-17 season

Post by Jermaine2015 Wed 26 Oct 2016, 9:18 pm

First topic message reminder :

Opening night results:

Cleveland Cavaliers 117-88 New York Knicks
Portland Trail Blazers 113-104 Utah Jazz
Golden State Warriors 100-129 San Antonio Spurs

The Warriors 'Super team' lacked cohesion as the Spurs ripped them apart. Kevin Durrant scored 27 on debut, but Kawhi Leonard silenced the Oracle Arena with a career best 35 point game.

Another night another record for the Golden State Warriors. The first time since the 96-97 Chicago Bulls to register 40 assists in a game three times in a season.

Warriors took advantage of a Melo/D-Rose less New York Knicks to improve to 23-4 with a 103-90 victory.

San Antonio Spurs improved to 21-5 with a 107-92 over the Phoenix Suns.

The Houston Rockets set a trio of 3 pointer related records in their 122-100 blowout win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The Rockets made a record 24 3pointers. The also set records for most 3pointers attempted in a half(31) and in a match(61). They where on fire!

The Warriors are a few games up already. They've said they won't be chasing the regular season record again, and to be fair they aren't even on pace, but I reckon they should get 67-70 wins.

Theyve got the greatest shooter of all time playing the point. Arguably the second greatest playing SG. And the greatest scorer in the league, arguably the greatest ever, but certainly top five ever at power forward. THere has never ever been this much offensive firepower in NBA ever

Curry may well end up being the greatest shooter ever but he's a defensive liability. Klay is nowhere near the second greatest. KD isn't the great scorer in the league now, let alone of all time.

Defensive liability my ass. He isn't chris Paul, but Stephen can defend just fine. Like Stephen A. Smith says, people always talk about Steph being this normal guy, regular guy... but he's 6'3, with long ass arms. HE can do his work defensively. Lead the league in steals last year, and the Warriors are the #1 Fast break team in the league.

As for KD... Only seven players in NBA history have ever shot a 50-40-90 season. Of those seven, only Curry and Larry Bird did it with better point per game average. Neither of those guys have four scoring championships. So he doesn't only just score in volume, he scores from everywhere on court.

As for Klay, set the record in the three point contest. Most succesful treys by anyone not named Curry. Most points in a quarter. OF course he's the second or third greatest shooter of all time.

The same Stephen A. Smith who is widely regarded as a trash commentator that will say anything to get fame. The same Stephen A. Smith that said that Kawhi Leonard would never amount to much offensively. Yeah, I'll pass on his opinion.

With regard to KD, you're talking about one season. He's behind multiple players in terms of scoring this season. He's not close to being the best ever scorer. Great player, but you're giving him way too much.

He just listed the guy's already listed physical dimensions. He's a 6'3 190lbs steal machine.

Of course he won't lead the league in scoring this season. He doesn't have to. Curry is getting nearly 25 points a game and Klay is getting 22. Why on earth would he need to get 30 a nightb? Russell Westbrook is getting 30 a night and Thunder have lost what? 5 out of 7?

Showed this week that he can go nuclear if and when he wants to. 40 points on 16 shots? 5 for 7 from downtown? That's outrageous.

If the Cavs had to play in the West, I'm not convinced they'd make it out. I don't however doubt for a moment that the Warriors are gonna run through the Spurs if they meet.

Little bit more than halfway through the season, and the Warriors are 38-6 having been 40-4 at the same point last season. Hard to argue with them having taken a quantum leap forward despite this. Harrison Barnes was a quality player, but trading Barnes for Durant is unfair. This is the best team in the NBA this season. Possibly the best team since the 2000-1 Lakers... but do they have ring winners in them?

In a slightly surprising result, my Miami Heat edged the Warriors by three points to track their 15th win of the season. We'd need a miracle to break .500, but we've got four wins on the bounce. Haven't had much good to say about the Heat since we sold Wade.

For the Warriors, okay it's their third game of a road trip. Last week they took out the Cavs, Thunder and Rockets so maybe they just weren't up to it tonight, which can happen In a 82-game season, but they're only 2-3 games ahead of the Spurs, so they can't really take locking down the top seed for granted

The Cavs lost their fifth in seven games to drop to 30-13, which puts them fourth overall in the season standings, behind three Western conference teams. barring a shock in the West, it seems the Cavs will probably not have home court these finals

The Warriors screwed up the balance of the side with the acquisition of Kevin Durant. We ended up losing a lot of quality rotation players. Bogut is a big loss and whilst Barnes wasn't top tier he offered a lot. Obviously the opportunity to get KD couldn't be turned down but it could end up being detrimental

He is, but, KD + Zaza represents an upgrade from Barnes = Bogut.
Need to remember that the dubs got absolutely blown to bits in the paint during last year's finals. Bogut was walked all over. KD is listed at 6'9, but he's really at least 6'11 (maybe 7'1) with a 7'6 wingspan. If he wants to, he can defend better than Bogut. It's just that simple. Sure it would be great (for them, not for me) if they had a Hassan Whiteside playing C, but they've blown their cap keeping the Hampton, helped by the fact that Steph Curry has the most bang for buck deal in the NBA. Zaza is a luxury they can afford with Javale coming off the bench and KD helping out. Look at Bogut away from the Dubs. He's no more than a role player for the Mavs.

In sport sometimes you win sometimes you lose. But every now and then you get absolutely pasted and probably lose the will to live. Unfortunately for the Clippers, this was one of those times they got pasted. The Golden State Warriors trashed them by 46 points, as Stephen Curry dropped 46 points on 15-23 shooting including a 43 point third quarter. Unfortunately for the Clippers, even in a perfect world where they managed to curtail the Curry barrage, Kevin Durant scored 23 points on 9-11 shooting. How the Frak does a team have a guy shooting that well only score 23 points and still win by 46 points??

In other news Miami won their seventh game in a row. SEVEN. That's right. The hottest team In the NBA at the moment is the Heat. No pun intended

So a quick update KD and the Warriors went to OKC and put it on the Thunder. KD's decision to join the Warriors was justified. KD is all about the win whereas Westbrook is all about personal achievements.

Last night the Nuggets when on beast mode on the warriors. Denver landed a record equaling 24 3s. Incredible stuff.

The Kings got absolutely fleeced in the Cousins trade.

Forgot to update before, Anthony Davis was named the All Star Game MVP after he drained an ASG record 52 points. Man was on fire!

48-9 this season, compared to a 73-9 season last year, but this is a way better team. I don't know what the Cavs can do to beat them, especially with trade deadline passed. LeBron must just take the L and go home.

Ha, listen to this. It's not over until it's over. Look at the 16-0 Patriots or even the Eagles "Dream Team" recently.

All it takes is an injury or two or a few freak results.
