Tactics:
Attributes:

Attacking:
1) Breakdown - Clearing: Ensuring the possession is clean and quick with quick support to the breakdown
2)  Phase Attack: Attacks build momentum until an opportunity arises.
Defending:
1) Breakdown - Slowing up ball: The defenders can get over the ball to slow it up and prevent the attack from building momentum and allowing your defence to set.
2) Breakdown - Organised Ruck defence: with guards and body guards set, allowing the rest of the line to set off them.

Tactics:

Breakdown:
As usual we will see the pack act as a unit to clear out the ball aggressively to counteract the opposition's backrow at the breakdown, and all chip in, making sure we keep up fast ball whilst disrupting theirs. Cancoriet will look to use his pace to chase the ball and get to it first, acting as a fetcher, whilst Fearns and Vito tend to lead the clearing out.

Attack:
Twin playmakers with Godwin at 12 looking to keep up a fast paced game of a succession of quick phases, changing the angles off 9-10-12 to create gaps in the defensive line. We will mix up direct carries from Fearns, Vito, Uhila, Ranger with players like Taylor, Pennell, Gilroy, Cancoriet cutting creative lines and rumbles from the front five, with our 9-12 axis happy to attack themselves if the opportunity is on, the only emphasis is to keep the phases coming. With Godwin able to act as first receiver, we will look to put in a few pivot plays, making it hard to bully our halfbacks.

If we hit a dead end, with can use the boots of Spencer, Gopperth and Godwin with the kick chase of Gilroy et al to try to expose Purdy under the high ball, and look for clever chips and grubbers through. The key is to have an adaptable approach if things aren't working.

There are some old players in that Tigers' pack, so lots of attacking the fringes as part of our phase attack and moving about the pack, especially backrow, and making them tackle and switch direction is vital, as if we tire them in teh loose their set piece and breakdown will become targetable in the middle of the game and gaps will appear late on, which is what our draining approach counts on. Ross is no spring chicken, so is expected to do less of the carrying and focus mostly on his set piece job.

As such, we need to keep ball in hand to avoid tiring defence ourselves, so with a Tigers' backline with a lot of kicking in it, we will aim to run back kicks where possible and set up another set of brutal phases, also depriving Beale of chances to run the ball back, taking away one of his strengths to focus on his defensive weakness as the last man.

Defence:
Blitz led by Taylor, Spencer sweeping and a tight fringe defence that restricts their options around the corner. Burns loves to run at 10, so we'll look to shake him up with a physical greeting via our backrow early and affect his confidence

Scrum:
Look to hold them and get parity and let them work hard without making us look like a dominated side early, expecting that as we tire their pack we can take them apart in the middle to late game, with a solid replacement front row when we need it. Early on, get our own ball out quick and run off 8 to tire their backrow some more, but later on turn the screw.

Lineout:
Mix up our receivers, looking to equally use quick ball off the top with gruelling mauls for them to defend. In defence, look to challenge on the ground mostly.

Other:
Today we take very easy points but generally look to use the penalty as an excuse to kick to the corner and tire their pack some more.
Press hard for penalties - we may give a few away but think for any given penalty Gopperth is more likely to score than Burns, and the extra intensity helps our game plan.
Off the bench, Taylor covers wing and Tompkins to 13 if needed

In decent conditions we will be looking to play a possession based game, going through the phases. Look to make ground carrying close to the ruck and recycling quickly, with offloading and forward inter play to keep the ball off the ground and moving, preventing a ruck and defensive line being set. Burns will take the ball to the line and tempt the Bristol defence to jump out of the defensive line, creating holes for our back line to exploit. Multiple playmakers to stand at first receiver, either side of the ruck to stretch the Bristol defence and try and cause and overlap, or to make tactical kick in behind the wings.

In defence, as always we will be running a blitz defence. Our focus will be on the gainline collisions and driving back in the tackle. Line speed and no dog-legs will be key components for us. Houagaard will sweep in behind the defensive line to counter any chips/grubbers.

Specifics

  • Line-out: Nothing flash. Hit our front and middle jumpers and ensure that we secure our ball. We will also mix it up, shortening the line-out and using our back row as crash ball options off the top. On Bristol ball put pressure on through Bird and Lobbe, who are athletic line-out jumpers.
  • Scrum: Get low and underneath their props and drive straight. Really test their props technical abilities rather than get in to a battle of strength.
  • Breakdown: When we carry in, we will flood the breakdown rucking well past the ball to free it up quickly, so that Hougaard can feed the ball quickly to forwards, the first receiver, or snipe through a hole. In defence, if we have made a passive tackle and the carrier has momentum we will not over commit, but will maintain a strong defensive line. If we win the collision and knock the carrier back we will look to get the second man in hard over the ball to slow up momentum, or turn over possession. Key for us is being selective, and only committing men to a winnable ruck.
  • Attacking Play: We will be looking to play a fast offloading game, with the ball shifted on to the support runner just prior to the point of the tackle with the defender already committed. However this will only be implemented within the opposition half. We will also utilise the pick and go, meaning their defensive line cannot blitz efficiently. We will then we will look to exploit the delay in their blitz that results. We will then look to shift the direction of play and pull their defenders out of position to create gaps. Hougaard to also look to snipe around the fringes, to keep the defence honest and keep us going forwards all the time.
  • Linking to our tactical kicking, but we only want to play rugby in the Bristol half. Therefore we look to gain territory, put pressure on the Bristol wingers to clear their lines and put pressure on their set piece to regain possession.
  • Tactical Kicking: If we kick, we will look to kick in behind their wingers and get them on the turn going back towards their own line, with our wingers on the kick chase to really target them defensively. Burns, Steyn and Beale can take the ball to the line and kick in behind the defense, to get our wingers either on the end of the grubber, or pin back Bristol.
  • Look to use the bench when needing to freshen the impetus of the forwards.

Territorial Kicking: Looking to pin back sides and kick for open spaces or touch.
First phase attack/strike moves: Will look to break the defence, with either a bust through or a clever move to create a gap.

Breakdown - Slowing up ball: The defenders can get over the ball to slow it up and prevent the attack from building momentum and allowing your defence to set.
Chop Tackle: Tacklers look to get low and chop down attackers before gaining momentum or metres over the gain line.

We have picked a big pack and are targeting the forward battle as key to an away win against Worcester. We have a solid scrum to build from and two big locks who are both good lineout options.

The set piece will be important and we will look to use this as a weapon to attack from and gain territory. Our back row are all big carriers and we will use them all to gain hard yards and tire out Warrior defenders. Ewers, Youngs, Big Ben T, Fritz Lee, Coetzee are all good strong ball carriers and will look to get us front foot ball for Lozowski to work with.

In the backs we will use Nonu as a crash ball option and a decoy runner to open up space for the likes of Mermoz, JP Pietersen and Lowe to exploit. Lozowski will kick all pens for goal if in range and if not look to kick deep to gain territory.

Season's Attributes-
Offloading in the Tackle
Breakdown (Turnovers)
Blitz Defence
Choke Tackle
-We have selected a heavy, hard working pack looking to nullify the Chiefs danger from their big carriers and set piece,
-We will play a controlled game, not looking to overly use the offloading-only when on. Williams will look for territory,
-Big carriers up front looking to offload if the conditions allow possible although being mindful of the encroaching defence and we will have support runners on their shoulders,
-Back row looking to be balanced with carrying, tackling and Warbs bringing the turnover attribute,
-We have Wray and Beard to add energy into the second half and will look to use his link play against tired legs,
-The breakdown is likely to be scrappy and the first man there will look to go for the ball using our turnover attribute. If it is obviously lost we will fan out. If Chiefs under-commit we will look to drive through them for the turnover,
-Look to not commit too much to their breakdown if the ball is lost and use blitz defence led by Williams allowing the chance to apply the choke tackle to stop Saints playing a quick tempo game,
-We have Plisson, Williams and Tait who could slot into first receiver and keep them guessing,
-Backs to play what is in front of them, runners off Williams and  /Jones, we will use Thompstone and Petersen as a strike runner and know the pace of our back three to put pressure with quick ball,
-When nothing is on Plisson or Williams will go for territory and also use  his 'bombs' to challenge and turn their backlline,
-We will the wingers to come into the line and switch things up to keep Chiefs guessing and allow us the chance to hit from deep at times and not be predictable,
-Take all kickable penalties.

Overall: We are gonna be looking to play front foot rugby and put Quins under immense pressure with our energy. Look for big carries and offloading at a high pace looking to create space and break the defense. Attack the set piece where we expect to be dominant and finish strongly off the bench

Scrum: Use the set piece to get quick ball to restart our play. We will look to get more power from our back five. Falateu will look to attack off the quick ball he gets.

Lineout: We will look to switch up the lineup with Falateu, Beaumont and Kitchener options in the lineout. Beaumont will run the line out. Look to get up into the air quickly and down for a quick maul. We think we can dominate here against a poor set of jumpers. Kitchener will offer quick ball option at the front.

Breakdown: Look to generate quick ball for our backs to take advantage of. Tipuric is brilliant at the breakdown and we will also look to get the rest of the pack looking to help and clear out.

Defence: Run a blitz defence. TKB to drift behind expecting kicks.

Attack: Our half backs will control our rugby. TKB will set the tempoand play what he sees in front of him. Outside of him, Debrenczeni will play flat and use his creativity to bring in the back line and make plays. He will be given a freedom to be creative. Look to bring in the rest of the back line, especially Hill and Moala who we would like to get running at defenders.  Wade and Imhoff are very skilful and if the ball gets to them will look to draw in defenders. The pack will also be involved when we have the ball for a prolonged period. We have strong carriers who excel in the loose. Look to get the ball in the hands of EBA, Beaumont and Falateu in order to break the line and make yards. Throughout them team look to Keep the ball alive and look for offloads. Look to play with a high tempo and get the ball moving across the back line. Exploit the holes we create and look to tire out Quins which can help nullify their offensive threats.

Kicking: Debrenczeni will be our chosen place kicker. We will chuck in the occasional grabber to chase. Debrenczeni, TKB, Imhoff and Kolbe all have the boots necessary to try and put us in a good position territorially if need.

Substitutes: Keep a high tempo off the bench.

Attributes:
Breakdown - Clearing: Ensuring the possession is clean and quick with quick support to the breakdown
First phase attack/strike moves: Will look to break the defence, with either a bust through or a clever move to create a gap.

Blitz Defence: Your side is known for Blitz and excels at it
Breakdown - Turnover possession: Your side is recognised to pick off turnovers at the breakdown, by getting the ball and gaining the penalty.

Tactics
Looking to continue our unbeaten start to the season in the AP, we recall Ashley Johnson to the starting lineup to really put the young Falcons hooker under pressure physically and add another ball carrier to our pack. Conditions are ideal to play the game at speed and a real high intensity from the outset, with an emphasis on winning the breakdown battle to get quick ball and turnovers to attack and stretch the Falcons defence and aim to score tries.

Set Piece
Lineout - Five good options in the lineout, where we will look to generate quick ball for our backline to attack from, with Fifita putting pressure on the away side's throws and really target McGuigan when we can.
Scrum - Burger to launch attacks from the base of the scrum at Madigan and take him out of the game.

Gain-line/Physical Battle
Like Saracens in real life we'll look to send big runner after runner at the Falcons defence to suck in players and create space outwide. Have picked Burger at no8 to give us a real physical approach, but recalled Johnson to give us a really strong ball carrying option alongside our big second row pairing.

Breakdown
See attributes.

Attack
- Aim to create space for our backline, so our play-making 10-12 combination can bring in AAC, Banahan and Montero into the game and really attack Falcons.
- Look to overpower the Falcons backs, with power runners and win the gain line battle there.
- Strong kicking game from the 9-10-12 combination, where we will have the option to play for territory and pin Falcons back.
- Challenge Miller in the air, with some very strong and big kick chasers in our backline.
- Impact bench to up the tempo in final 20/25 minutes.

Defence
Blitz defence, with Simpson sweeping behind. 9-10-12 all big boots to get us out of trouble. Pituau identified as the big threat, so kicks will target Strettle's wing instead and Montero will look to use his physical presence to bring the winger down before he gets shifting.

Breakdown: Slowing up ball: The defenders can get over the ball to slow it up and prevent the attack from building momentum and allowing your defence to set.
Blitz Defence: Your side is known for Blitz and excels at it

Game plan

Alternate playmakers/kicking options - kick in behind their big wings and get them turning, we'll put on a strong chase. With ball in hand, split the field with Marshall/Piutau coming in at first receiver

Target the 10/12 channel - we've got the power runners in the pack and Serfontein to put Sopoaga on the back foot, test the youngster Mallinder physically

Target the lineout with Flip to pick off Johnson's throws - we think they lack a real lineout technician

Win the back row battle - similar set ups but we have top internationals back for us here, win the breakdown

Set piece - Look to really put their props under maximum pressure with our strong front row, we've got a great scrummaging lock pairing to help. If no weakness, use as restart. On their ball, mark their second rows and force long throws. On our ball, use the back row options to mix it up.

Breakdown - Back row and hooker to lead the way on turnovers. Others focus on strong clear outs and maintaining a strong defensive line. . On our ball, smash them off the ball, use pod system to ensure support if they are having success. Our openside is charged with keeping their main breakdown threat off our ball, and target turnovers if one of their carriers gets isolated

Kicking - Options throughout the backs . Kick in behind the wings for territory, aim for space not the man. Challenge wings positioning, Wings free to drop back for the counter off their kicks

Attack - Run our attack off 9 who sets the tempo, constantly change the point of attack and get our 10 quick ball.. Challenge their 10 defensively with our power backs cutting in running hard lines at his channel with the full back coming into the line. Big carrying forwards to set a platform, run at 10/12 all day long to put them on the back foot off first phase, see how they handle it.

Defence - no weak links in the backline, use the blitz defence to put them on the back foot,  Power in the midfield to set the tone in defence, putting pressure on their midfield

Bench - Big carrying forwards throughout and talented, pacy backs to see us home

Tactics:

Defensive:

Blitz Defence - Get in the face of the opposition and allow them very little time on the ball.

Breakdown - Turnover possession: Your side is recognised to pick off turnovers at the breakdown, by getting the ball and gaining the penalty

Attacking:

Territorial Kicking: Looking to pin back sides and kick for open spaces or touch

Offloading in the tackle: Moving the point of attack preventing a defence to set and keeping play fluid

FANTASTIC FORM - CLIMBING THE TABLE AND HOME FORTRESS - We've got great form and are riding high after beating the double winners in their backyard. Look to keep the tempo up and blow Gloucester away from the off.

TARGET GLOUCESTER BACK 3 - Look to get at Addison and Walker all game. Get Thomas running through Walker from the off and look to put him off his game.

TARGET GLOUCESTER BACKROW - Look to out muscle them from the off and lay a platform down at the breakdown.

GET AT LCD'S THROW EARLY ON - Darts are an issue and we feel we can target him from the off. Look for Parling to take apart his throw and force him off his game. If we see a weakness, look to target the corners and increase the pressure.

General - We'll be playing a structured physical game from the off, look to get at the opposition and target the breakdown. We'll look to tie the opposition in with our physical pack/carrying options and then get at their outisde backs, more so in their half. Look to keep it tight in the forward pack and grind through work. Looking to bring in the opposition pack and then use big carrying options to punch holes through their defence. Look to control the tempo and areas we play with kicking options at halfback.

Scrum - Look to get a platform from the off with a strong scrummaging unit. Strong front 5 with big locks will look for the big push once the ball is in and drive the opposition back. Our TH and Hooker will look to target LH and try to get between him and Hooker to allow LH to work on TH If no weakness seen will use as restart.

Line out – Look for safe ball with world class line out options and experience. Will allow SH good clean ball and have big carriers running off the 9 at angles. Look to target opposition throw and put pressure on the hooker.

Defence - Blitz defence with high intensity and big hits, looking to drive past the ball player if the ball hits the deck. physical pack that can look to get at the collision and breakdown allowing a chance to slow down/steal ball. Put pressure on SH's basics and force him into errors. Scrum half to sweep behind the defensive line.

Attack - Keep things simple in our own half then look to unleash backs in opp 22 territory. Scrum half to dictate play from the breakdown and runners on his shoulder. Huge carrying pack to get us over the gain line after front 5 set a platform. Midfield to run angles off the 9/10, allowing us gain line breakers. Look to keep opposition guessing with clever lines through midfield. Wingers will look to track the midfield combo.

Glos go to Sarries with a lot of players available against a sarries side hit with lots of call ups. We will look to build momentum before utilising our stellar backline. We will also look to take it to sarries physically with our front 5.

Counter Attack - Receiving the ball down field, your players will look to attack with ball in hand, thriving in the broken field and open spaces.
Breakdown (Turnover Possession) - Your side is recognised to pick off turnovers at the breakdown, by getting the ball and gaining the penalty

Choke tackle : Tacklers look where possible to hold the opposition up and force the turnover

Great to be at home with conditions for running rugby. Our game plan will be based around winning quick ball and moving the ball.

We aim to take advantage of the weather and play at pace.

We will look to build phases and use the likes of Alberts , etzbeth, lavanini etc to get us across the gain line so we can play with quick ball.

we will look for Robson, Carter and Toomua to control the tempo of the game. Off static ball we will look to truck it up or kick for space but our aim is to play at pace. Our 9,10,12,13  will look to give Create space to target sarries Backline with The likes of devoto who has not played 12 all year .  With a back 3 of walker Amos and Addison  they have to have pace to burn Andy all and we will look to get it to them as often as possible.

We will also be keen to test their ten channel with taylor very willing but Hopefully outclassed.  We will Target him and look to flood numbers for the offload.

When we generate quick ball we will look to utilise our extreme gas out wide and create one on ones. Our wings are quick and elusive and can play.

Having ball players in 9-15 means we are able to slot in on any turnover and counter attack at pace.

We are looking to create space for our outside backs with  looking to exploit the space outwide. We will use toomua or Walker as a first receiver when we need to change things up.

In our own half when kicking we will use the boots of Robson, Carter and Toomua to gain territory, looking to kick to touch so we can use our line out to steal possession and pressure the sarried line our int second rows and Croft .

In defence And with such a physical pack we will be using the choke tackle to slow down and turnover ball. When it gets to deck we will look to attack the breakdown with the first man there looking to win the penalty or the turnover.

We will look to use the up then out drift defence on the call of the scrum half or full back as in conditions like this it's harder to use as the ball player has more time on the ball. It's a day when blitz is ineffective

Carter to kick all penalties in range

Defence:
- Ensure guards and body guards at every breakdown, no gaps in midfield.
- Good line speed to put pressure on their handling and ability to go round our blitz defence

Attributes:
Phase Attack: Attacks build momentum until an opportunity arises.
Breakdown - Clearing: Ensuring the possession is clean and quick with quick support to the breakdown.

Blitz Defence: Your side is known for Blitz and excels at it.
Breakdown - Slowing up ball: The defenders can get over the ball to slow it up and prevent the attack from building momentum and allowing your defence to set.

Attack: We will be playing a high intensity phased attacking game. Look to use a rugby league shape with runners on the gain line and out the back door to force the opposition into making defensive decisions. Numerous playmakers across the back line allows us to constantly change the point of attack and restructure our attacking phases. Mitchell to keep the fringe defence honest with his snipping runs.

Breakdown: Quick ball is the aim on attack. Mobile pack and physical back line to clear out rucks and ensure we get it. We will look to get over the gain line off all carries to give a target to hit. Defensively when the initial contact is won we will look to commit numbers and get over the ball turning it over or at least slowing opposition ball up. Otherwise we will strengthen the line.

Defence: Straight line blitz defence focused on winning the gain line collisions and driving the ball carrier back. Line speed is crucial. Mitchell will sweep behind the line to cover chips and grubbers. Li & Bendy to cover the background dropping deep to cut off the green grass available to kick into.

Scrum: Strong scrummaging unit in the front row with the support of a powerful 4-8 will look to get the better of the opposition and build a strong attacking platform. We will look to put a slight wheel on where possible to take the opposition backrow out of play and then attack the space available and look for one on ones in the backline.

Lineout: Five mobile, athletic jumpers allows us to genuinely mix it up on attacking ball. Primarily looking to get the backs on the ball in space. Defensively Itoje to get up in the air at the front and challenge on opposition ball while POM marshals the middle looking to make it as messy as possible.

16. Scott Spurling 17. Alex Waller 18. Ben Franks 19. Ed Slater 20. James Haskell 21. Lee Dickson 22. Tom Taylor 23. Hosea Gear

Tactics:

FANTASTIC FORM - CLIMBING THE TABLE WITH BATH STRUGGLING - We've got great form and are riding high after away wins over the champions and Gloucester in consecutive weeks. Bath are going through a transition period and have missed some of their key players. We'll look to take advantage of their low confidence and keep the tempo up from the off.

TARGET BATH's AI PLAYERS RUSSELL & FALETAU - As we've seen numerous times over the years. Returning AI players are often off their game when thrown straight back in. In 2 key positions, we'll look to target Faletau, by putting pressure on him early and taking him out. Hardie and Thompson (and then Haskell) will target Russell all game, putting him on the back foot.

16. Tom West 17. Rob Buchanan  18. James Johnston 19. Sam Twomey 20  Mitch Eadie 21. Andy Uren 22. Rhys Patchell 23. Nick Tompkins

Tactics:

Attributes:

Replacements
16. Schalk Brits 17. James Page 18. Conan O'Donnell 19. Michael Paterson 20. James Davies 21. Jamie Shilcock 22. Manu Tuilagi 23. Tyler Morgan

Attributes

Phase Attack - Attacks build momentum until an opportunity arises.
Counter Attack - Receiving the ball down field, your players will look to attack with ball in hand, thriving in the broken field and open spaces.

Breakdown (Turnover Possession) -  Your side is recognised to pick off turnovers at the breakdown, by getting the ball and gaining the penalty
Chop Tackle: Tacklers look to get low and chop down attackers before gaining momentum or metres over the gain line.

Game Plan

  • Look to play at pace at get our big carriers into the game in the shape of Aki, Kriel, Gorgodze, Clifford with West, Henshaw and MCkenzie offering as first receivers and game managers throughout the game.
  • Use our pack to get us on the front foot carrying the ball at pace and getting across the gain line with support to enable us to get a quick ruck and recycle possession quickly.
  • We want to vary the point of attack, using our plethora of play-makers to switch our point of attack and challenge the organisation of the Bath defence.
  • Use the boots of Pienaar, West and McKenzie to play in the right areas of the pitch and put Leicester under pressure and force the to take risks to gain field position.
  • Use Kriel and Clifford in particular to attack the breakdown and turnover and disrupt the quality of Bath's attacking ball.

Attributes
Counter Attacking: Receiving the ball down field, your players will look to attack with ball in hand, thriving in the broken field and open spaces.
Phase Attack: Attacks build momentum until an opportunity arises.

Manager – Fluxy

Tigers Attributes
Defensive Traits

  • Blitz Defence: Your side is known for Blitz and excels at it
  • Breakdown - Slowing up ball: The defenders can get over the ball to slow it up and prevent the attack from building momentum and allowing your defence to set.

Attacking Traits

  • Offloading in the tackle: Moving the point of attack preventing a defence to set and keeping play fluid.
  • Breakdown - Clearing: Ensuring the possession is clean and quick with quick support to the breakdown

Glos go to satires with a lot of players available against a sarries side hit with lots of call ups.

We will look tonbuild momentum before utilising our stellar backline.

Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals

Post by CJB Fri 25 Nov 2016, 12:54 pm

Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals

Post by Fluxy Tue 29 Nov 2016, 11:35 am

Bristol Rugby 20 - 19 Leicester Tigers

Bristol Rugby 18 - 23 Leicester Tigers
Not much in front fives overall. The Tigers back row have the advantage. Tigers have the better half backs pairing and their stronger outside backs make the scoreboard look better

Bristol Rugby 23 - 22 Leicester Tigers
Two pretty even front 5 units with Bristol taking the front row and Tigers the locks. Tigers flanks add more to the game but Vito the superior 8 in a close pack contest. 1 a piece in the halfbacks and very little in it after that. Very close one but home advantage sways it, similar result at Welford.

Bristol Rugby 20 - 23 Leicester Tigers
A stronger 4-8 for Tigers sees them edge the pack battle, even if there front 3 is a bit weak. Burns on good form at 10 also. Not a lot else in the backlines bur tigers have enough on the bench to see them win away.

Bristol Rugby 22 - 20 Leicester Tigers
Liking the half back combination that the home side are putting out, with Fearns the biggest ball carrier in the French league this season they have a great outlet there. Do really like the Tigers set up but home advantage just sways it.

Bristol Rugby 22 - 22 Leicester Tigers

Bristol Rugby 22 - 21 Leicester Tigers
Can see the Tigers front 5 getting on top here but the back row, especially with the form on Fearns will help Bristol to get something back. Half backs not a lot between the two 9s or the 10s with both suited well for the style being played. Similar with the back line as well with both teams set up well suited to their tactics. Tigers have a little more on the bench. Twin playmakers and good breakdown tactics help Bristol. Tigers looking at flooding the breakdown to nullify Bristol. I think, just with home advantage Bristol can take this.

Bristol Rugby 23 - 21 Leicester Tigers
Bristol stronger in front row, Leicester better locks, think back rows are pretty even. Backs also well matched, struggle to see either side getting a massive advantage. Both set up well with good attributes, in the end home advantage swings it

Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals

Post by Fluxy Tue 29 Nov 2016, 11:37 am

Exeter Chiefs 23 - 22 Worcester Warriors
I think Nel vs Poirot is the cornerstone of the scrum contest, and it's hard to call. Exeter have a bit more moxy and also in my opinion lineout expertise in the second row, and with quite a nice contest between flankers it will be interesting to see whether Lee's more consistent approach or Morgan's power on the fly comes in more useful - my instinct says Lee. I think despite his youth, I would trust Lozowski over Plisson, but Plisson is helped out by having a second playmaker outside him, and Williams at 12 with Jones outside him could be a very nice combo. All together, I just think the Exeter pack works harder and have control at halfback to win this. Worcester keep it very close though, as their tactics are a little more personalised and well set out.

Exeter Chiefs 23 - 22 Worcester Warriors

Exeter Chiefs 20 - 19 Worcester Warriors
Prefer the Exeter front five. Reckon they can get a real advantage here! Slight Warriors edge in back row. Neither half back combo is the best but I prefer the Warriors unit. Outside of that Exeter are better and at home they have enough

Exeter Chiefs 25 - 22 Worcester Warriors
Good scrum advantage for the home side although Worcester are no mugs. Exeter a step up in the engine room and a strange backrow battle with two top units with very little form. Enough in the backs for Exeter to come away with the win, a good game.

Exeter Chiefs 25 - 22 Worcester Warriors
Conditions ideally suited for the Chiefs pack and the added dynamism of Youngs, Some excellent ball carrying options in the midfield as well. The Warburton and Morgan backrow does offer the away side an advantage in that area, but not sure where they get over the gain line in the backs to take advantage.

Exeter Chiefs 21 - 22 Worcester Warriors

Exeter Chiefs 26 - 24 Worcester Warriors
Very difficult to call, both sides have plenty of internationals in their packs, think Worcester edge the scrum but Exeter slightly better round the park. Halfbacks well matched, but think Exeter have a bit more in the outside backs, and at home this is enough for the win

Exeter Chiefs 25 -24 Worcester Warriors

Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals

Post by Fluxy Tue 29 Nov 2016, 11:40 am

Harlequins 30 - 21 Bath Rugby
I prefer Bath at the scrum, but suspect Quins would probably edge the lineout. Not a big fan of Skelton right now, but Bath get extra help from the front row in the loose and breakdown, helping Gill out in a very hard battle against a Quins backrow excellent at the breakdown. Some errors with wrong player names in teh Bath tactics which hurts them. Bath with their front row and Faletau can carry well, but Quins' look to use their carriers coming onto the ball at pace and the variety between power and pace in teh pack is hard to counteract. Bath have a very settled and competent backline, with solid centres and lightning on the wings. Aki- Henshaw is  a proven combo and again with West a good attacker and Pienaar a help with his control and the mix of different types of attacking threat in that backline for Quins, it's just too hard for Bath to defend against

Harlequins 25 - 26 Bath Rugby
Have to side with the Bath front row with some of the Quins players struggling for a bit for form. Bath again take the locks and a close contest in the backrow. Both sides lucky with injuries in the backs and pretty impressive line ups considering it's the AI's.

Harlequins 25 - 23 Bath Rugby
The packs are pretty even, but it is Quins backline that gets them over the line. Pienaar controlling at 9 and the likes of Henshaw and Aki give then a good attacking threat whilst also being strong defensively. Bath also a man short on the bench which never helps!

Harlequins 30 - 26 Bath Rugby
Cant fault that Quins team, full of attacking intent and can see them getting the full BP win. Bath do get some good impact off their bench but that QUins team is looking good.

Harlequins 24 - 23 Bath Rugby

Harlequins 25 - 21 Bath Rugby
Front row to Quins with 2nd row closer, nothing between two good back row partnerships. Quins a step up at half back and a great centre pairing that worked well last season IRL. Both teams pretty dangerous out wide. Quins keeping it simple and Bath looking for quick ball. Feel Bath may struggle getting the quick ball they need and Quins can edge this one.

Harlequins 29 - 23 Bath Rugby
Bath pack lacking a bit of form for me at the moment in key positions, think Quins will get the advantage up front. Closer in the backs, but Pienaar is invaluable in international weeks, and his control will get the talented Quins backs into positions to win this fairly comfortably

Harlequins 27 - 26 Bath Rugby

Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals

Post by Fluxy Tue 29 Nov 2016, 11:43 am

Northampton Saints 25 - 23 Newcastle Falcons
Saints have a solid front row in good form, athletic locks that work well in a lineout (though unsure who runs it) and very strong at the breakdown in the backrow, though reliant on Burger for carrying a bit (though decent at linking up). Johnson helps in that regard. Falcons match up well in the scrum in a close battle, with a more evenly balanced lock combo ad both sides will win their own set piece ball. Falcons probably better balanced in the backrow but not quite as good at the breakdown.
Saints effectively target Madigan, which I would do, and pressurise the halfbacks, and Falcons do the same, so which of Johnson/Burger and the Falcons centres/Dixon does this better is important - I think I back Saints there, with both 10s targetable though talented.
Pretty happy with both backlines and approaches, Newcastle more spark outwide but Saints edge the centres and Simpson like Piutau is an individual threat. I think the breakdown and the better targeting of the 10 wins it for Saints

Northampton Saints 21 - 22 Newcastle Falcons

Northampton Saints 23 - 26 Newcastle Falcons
Front five goes to Newcastle and they also have a slight edge in the back rows. One each in the half backs but Newcastle see a lot more ball. Both backs are dangerous but Newcastle have to get the vote here

Northampton Saints 23 - 27 Newcastle Falcons
Saints ravaged with call-ups and it shows with Falcons able to put a marker down in the front 5 and set piece. Both flank combo's lacking bulk but Falcons perhaps the better combo with Burger and Louw the standouts. Past the pack, Falcons step it up and are a bit stronger across the backine in each position.

Northampton Saints 25 - 25 Newcastle Falcons
Close game this one. Packs are tight, not a fan of Saints second row but they have enough in front and back row to compete. Some good players in both backlines make it too tight to split.

Northampton Saints 23 - 22 Newcastle Falcons

Northampton Saints 28 - 28 Newcastle Falcons
Really nothing between the front 5 on show here and fantastic backrow balance from both teams, again tough one to split here with good power and breakdown nous. Just edge Saints at half backs but Falcons slightly better in the centre here. Outwide, Saints have some form but Falcons on top. The alternate playmakers and attacking the back row will help Falcons. Saints avoiding Piatau with kicks and looking at using international experience in key positions. One I can't split sorry.

Northampton Saints 27 - 27 Newcastle Falcons

Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals

Saracens 26 - 25 Gloucester Rugby
I think Gloucester have an advantage in the scrum but not enough to turnover Saracens' put ins. Both sides have a strong lineout (not sure of either hooker's darts but they have excellent catchers to aim for). Saracens do have an edge at the breakdown with a more logical looking backrow in good form.
Saracens playing a very Saracens style today, against a faster paced, more Harlequins like Gloucester side. In teh past Saracens' style has been hard to beat playing as Gloucester plan to, but recently that has been less the case if approached properly and Gloucester do have the game management and temperament in their leaders to manage it. Both 9-10s work well with their tactics, and both backlines are high quality with a couple of less strong players and work well in their tactical set ups.
Actually very tricky to call, but Saracens' home advantage is probably just enough

Saracens 25 - 24 Gloucester Rugby

Saracens 21-28 Gloucester Rugby
Gloucester just have a bit more about their front five. Their back row is also impressive and probably has an edge. They also have stronger half backs and the outside backs being almost equal does not really come into it

Saracens 24 - 22 Gloucester Rugby
Home win for Sarries as their workman like pack grinds out a victory. Parra at 9 is key and gives them good control. Glos have a bit more flair with Carter at 10 but the backline could do with a bit more form.

Saracens 23 - 24 Gloucester Rugby
The away team been very lucky with injuries to likes of their second rows and put out a very strong pack that can really put the home sides under pressure. Better half back combination for the away side, but Sarries a lot stronger in back three, but other areas Gloucester win.

Saracens 24 - 22 Glouester Rugby
Not a long in front 3 but prefer the Glos 2nd row pairing. Two solid backrows but neither massively setting the world alight so far this season. Bit more for Glos at half back. Do like the Sarries centre pairing and out wide think Sarries could cause some issues. Sarries targeting weaknesses well and Glos looking for tempo which I think Sarries can choke out of them. Whilst Glos have the half backs for quick ball I don't think they will get it.

Saracens 27 - 23 Gloucester Rugby
Front row to Saracens, locks to Glos and back row to Sarries with Alberts out of position for me and Croft with no form. Glos better at halfback, but Sarries have more quality in the outside backs, and are set up better to take advantage of the likes of Addison and Walker. At home, Sarries take it

Saracens 25 - 24 Gloucester Rugby

Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Nine - Autumn Internationals

Wasps 23  - 30 Sale Sharks
Classically powerful scrummaging pack from Wasps, with power in the locks, but unsure of their form against a very in form Sale pack, which also fights well in the loose and the set piece. Sale also excellent in the lineout too.
Wood can't play this match, and even so not sure about the power of that backrow for Wasps, vs a classical balanced set up there for Sale which is pretty quality.
Mitchell is a weakness for Sale, ottherwise a strong and well used backline with more tactical set up than Wasps have, though Li may have a serious issue vs Watson against attacking kicks from the Wasps 9-10.
Overall I think Sale have too much.

Wasps 23 - 24 Sale Sharks

Wasps 24 - 34 Sale Sharks
Missing two men on the bench is fatal. Wasps have a stronger front row but are still weak in the second row. Inexperience means Sale can really dominate the back rows. Half backs also go to Sale but Wasps can put points on the board with their outside backs

Wasps 21 - 24 Sale Sharks
Very good pack for Sale and a few call-ups which I'm not sure Wasps know about! Tight in the backs, but with Sexton back (Lucky for Johnny!) they manage to turn the screw late on the game. Wasps unlucky with selections.

Wasps 28 - 30 Sale Sharks
Really exciting game here with a lot of class on show. Sale get the nudge upfront with the likes of Itoje and Vermeulen prominent. Wasps have a bit more in the backline though. Shame they are missing two subs and it ultimately costs them late on.

Wasps 19 - 25 Sale Sharks
Would have been close to a Wasps win if they had more detailed tactics and not reduced by 2 players on their bench. Very strong Sale team, with return of Sexton, but rushing a few players back from international games.

Wasps 21 - 22 Sale Sharks

Wasps 20 - 26 Sale Sharks
Feel Wasps take the front 3 battle but Sale bounce right back with a fantastic second row pairing. Back-row Sale are a step up and this really helps them here. One a piece at half back. Good defence out wide for Wasps but Sale have a bit more spark here. Think Wasps will meet their match coming up against a likewise mobile pack and Sale will get solid ball.

Wasps 19 - 21 Sale Sharks
Wasps strong at home, but the Sale pack is back at close to full strenght, and Sexton being back is huge for them. He'll run the game and get the power runners going, Wasps will hit back hard but Sale sneak it

Wasps 20 - 21 Sale Sharks
