Re: which wreslemania is best
Wrestlemania 17 is widely considered to have the strongest card. Like many others, my favourite is based on special moments that happened rather than the best card. For me 10 was my favourite, with the image of Bret spontaneously being hoisted up by the other wrestlers remaining one of my best moments in wrestling. Also had 2 other exceptional matches in HBK v Razor Ramon 1, and the wrestling clinic that saw Owen step out of Bret's spotlight.

I've always been a fan of 24, Edge vs Taker was a magnificent headliner and below Orton/Cena/HHH, MITB and JBL vs Finlay were all very entertaining, Show vs Mayweather was a romp and a strong contender for best celeb vs wrestler match and finally Ric Flair's final (WWE) match against HBK, emotions running high and story telling at its finest

I don't understand all the hype surrounding 17....
My favourite was 8, I loved 7 too as it was the 1st pay-per-view I saw....
18 was my favourite of recent times The Rock Hogan was just immense. Cena vs Rock will not even come close to repeating that

8 for Me! Savage beating Flair for the title, Hart beating Piper for the IC Title and the return of the warrior!!!
Re: which wreslemania is best
It's between X7 and 24 for me. Both had a number of brilliant matches and 17 will always be held in high regard as it was my first ever Wrestlemania and I'll always remember watching The Rock coming out that night and me having goosebumps all over my body as the guy was just electric that night!
A special mention XX only because of the two world title matches! For everything he did wrong, I'll always be a massive Benoit fan!

Wrestlemania 10 for me. Bret Hart v Owen Hart and HBK v Razor Ramon Ladder Match.
Those 2 matches alone does it for me.

X7 is my all time favourite, great matches, great tune (Limp Bizkit My Way)
As others have mentioned though 24 was quite close, especially the Flair v HBK match, which, imo, has been ruined by the fact Flair is still going in TNA!!!

Flair owes the WWE nothing, as long as he's got bills to pay he is entitled to earn the best he can

I don't blame him for making money it's just it's taken the gloss off of that retirement match for me

Re: which wreslemania is best
For match quality I think it was 17 or 19.
But for sentimental reasons it's 8 for me. It was my first, so I'm biased, but it was also a great Wrestlemania.
Honourable mention to 14. There's something about that event that is just a wrestling promotion at its very best.

Does anyone know of anywhere that I could watch Wrestlemania 8? After seeing a few people mention and looking at the card it looks a cracking show and would love to watch it. Especially the Savage v Flair match.

Re: which wreslemania is best
Steve, I'm guessing there's a tagged classic out there somewhere of WM7 and WM8. Worth getting; 7 isn't as good as 8, but does contain the legendary Warrior-Savage match in addition to a pretty good tag title match between the Hart Foundation and Nasty Boys.

Re: which wreslemania is best
I always gravitate towards 17 or 24 because 17 was my first and 24 contained an (imo) epic match for Flair to retire on.
I'm lacking a little in not having seen some of the Mania's before my time, only seeing certain matches, but I've promised myself that I will get all the Mania DVD's soon...

Cheers Crips, I'll go have a look on Silvervision to see if they have that Tagged Classic.
Are there any other older PPV's that you recommend I watch? Always interested in seeing the stuff before my time!

Re: which wreslemania is best
I'm guessing you mean pre-Attitude Era?
Personally, I'd recommend the following:
WWF Wrestlemania 3 (the height of the 80s boom), Royal Rumble 92 (obviously), Wrestlemania 10, In Your House: Canadian Stampede, Wrestlemania 14
NWA Great American Bash 1989 (probably my favourite wrestling event ever), WCW Wrestlewar 91, Beach Blast 92, Starrcade 94, Great American Bash 96, Bash at the Beach 96
I loved it when I was collecting tapes of stuff I never saw or wasn't following at the time, it's just fascinating to see the WWF and the NWA/WCW during different eras. You find some real gems (and some real Wrestlecarp) from WCW stuff around 1990 and the WWF aroiund 1996 in particular.

Cheers mate, I'll take a great look into those you've mentioned. I've actually watched the Beast Blast of 92. Cracking PPV. The Steamboat v Rude match was brilliant!
It's one thing that I wish I had been around for that was the Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW. I have always wanted to watch some of the WCW stuff but I struggle to find any of it these days. I've heard many say that WCW was in some terms the step between indy and WWE but I from what I have watched it seems that I prefered what I was seeing in WCW rather than the WWE.

Not sure who would say that. WCW was very much on the same level as WWE as far as the in-ring content, and for large periods had a better product. There were a couple of low periods, but for most of its existence the NWA and later WCW was just as big a deal as the WWF. It had a national presence and major stars.
ECW was more of a halfway point between the indies and the big leagues. It was a bit like ROH today, although it became more widely known.

Re: which wreslemania is best
Yeah, I did question those remarks myself as from what I have seen WCW's product was better than that of the WWF at times.
Like I said, I just wish I had been old enough to experience the Monday Night Wars as from what I have read on here they were incredible! If only TNA would sort themselves out and I might actually get to watch something that marginally replicates them.

I was thinking about the Monday Night Wars last night. Yes I'm a loser. I was thinking about how that situation will probably never be replicated. It was a coming together of so many factors; everything just fell into place.
There might eventually be something representing it, but it's hard to see how it could ever be topped. It really was an incredible time for wrestling.

I was wondering whether to buy the 'Rise and Fall of WCW DVD last night, as it happens. I know very little of WCW really, and I wonder if anyone can recommend it as a purchase? That or the Starrcade collection...

Re: which wreslemania is best
The first wrestlemania I remember was 9, looking back it's not the finest but at the time I was fascinated by all the rivalries going in. How could Bret Hart beat the 'japanese' monster, could Tatanka keep up his winning streak against HBK, I was even emotionally invested in the Crush/Doink rivalry. I'd never seen anything like it at that point.
Wm10 is probably my fav however, the fact it was at MSG added to the big night feel, the two standout matches (hart v hart and the ladder match) plus the feel good moment of the babyface winning the gold was perfect for the 9 year old me
