As it says in the title, world rugby need to bring back the old law where a 5m attacking scrum was awarded if you were held up over the line.

We know world rugby hate scrums but a team can now stand off a 5m lineout and fall back in the tackle while laying there and stopping the attacking team from scoring. You weren’t as likely to do it before as all you did was swap a maul for a scrum to defend. Now you can do it as you are rewarded with a clearing kick from under the posts.

I think the goal line drop out is far too harsh on the team who was held up. They did get the ball over the line after all, and should not lose 20, 30, or more metres because of it. The 5 meter scrum is appropriate for this.

Ref gave the attacking side the 5m scrum when we held them up over the line on the weekend just gone. I did try to remind him of the law change but he wasn't having any of it.
