Memphis win for Keothavong

British number two Anne Keothavong moved into the second round of the Cellular South Cup with a straight-sets victory over Aleksandra Wozniak in Memphis.

Keothavong needed less than an hour to complete a 6-2 6-2 win over her Canadian opponent.

She joins compatriot Heather Watson in the second round, the British number three having seen off Andrea Hlavackova on Sunday.

Keothavong will next take on Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia, who ousted eighth seed Vania King in the opening round.

But is was not such a good day for the higher-ranked players at the tournament as Barbora Zahlavova and Sofia Arvidsson both crashed out.

Top seed Zahlavova went down 6-1 6-3 against Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands, while second seed Arvidsson was a 6-3 6-1 loser against American lucky loser Alexandra Stevenson.

And there was no luck either for fifth-ranked Olga Govortsova of Belarus, as she crashed 6-3 4-6 6-4 to French qualifier Foretz Gacon.

The results have opened the door for American Fed Cup player Melanie Oudin, who breezed into the second round with a 6-4 6-0 victory over Anastasia Pivovarova.
