Seems Big Sam was suffering from Rodgers-itus by resting players gunna look bad if loses now especially as in last 15 mins ya looked decent. That being said do you not think he's got it a touch wrong way around? Sakho vs Terry/Cahill and Carroll vs Mertesacker/Monreal seems more of a threat then other way to me Erm

We wouldnt have won it whatever happened, Chelsea had a few gears left.

Nah, hes left Valencia on 90 mins, I'd bet he wont play against you and it will be Carroll and Sakho. We needed some power up there cos we had to hold it up. You have to rest players with a squad like ours over this period, nearly every team has to. Damned if you do, damned if you dont.

Actually think the Man U counter was a little overrated. Technically brilliant, a very good ball from Mata, and and a lovely cutback/cross by Falcao. But phuck for a counter did it take long. Rooney lucky there's no one within twenty yards of him, because he really does lumber out of his half.

I really don't think Chelsea have left third gear the entire BPL season, except maybe Everton. Seem content to win the premier league with the least effort ever exerted. Even in the big games, they've been quite content to let the opposition do the heavy lifting, and pick them off.

The PL isnt that easy, so dont fool yourself into thinking chelsea are that good they can cruise in third gear. every game can be tough. Chelsea have in the past allways been a counter team anyway and have allowed other teams to do the 'heavy lifting'.

This year they are a very different side and can control the game. This could be the best chelsea of all time

but you can not win the PL in third gear, and if they think along those lines
Man city will smash them- This isnt Germany.

Did bring a smile to my face, during this miserable xmas for us, seeing that red card given to him. Nice three game ban.

As for Newcastle horrible, we are on sky vs the shocking Everton on Sunday too, so expect a dire 0-0. We need reinforcements & quick.

Yeh never understood the appointment. Man has clearly not got what it takes to manage at the highest level. Irvine is apparently gone today as well. Pulis will be the man in demand, but I highly doubt he'll go back to Palace. Who's the bookies favourites for Palace job?

Also on another note, how bad has the officiating been this season? I know they have a tough job but some of the decisions yesterday were absolutely terrible. Linesman also need to give more decisions themselves. Allot of the time thye have the best view, yet stand there and do nothing, for example the Bruce handball yesterday and the Gibbs challenge on Zamora. God know what Atkinson was thinking in giving a pen against Debuchy, despite being 2 yards away.

Liam the officiating may just be slightly better than last year.

But year on year more is done in 90mins. The job becomes tougher.

I think Sherwood would be my pick if I was a Palace fan. As a WBA fan seems they've pulled the trigger to get Pulis in ready for the Jan window, but didn't Pulis leave Palace because he wanted more transfer funding? He'll have a shock if he expects 30m a window to spend at WBA.

Id love to see Eddie Howe get a job in the PL. Done wonders for Bournemouth stabilized them even when they started on -17pts in League 2. He could do very well for Palace pretty sure he left Burnley as he was homesick so from Bournemouth to Palace may be better suited for him.

I like Zamora. Intelligent and unselfish. Very good foil for Austin. All well demonstrated when he set up Austin's equaliser against West Brom last week. Barring his early years down on the South Coast with Nick's team, think it's fair to say though that Zamora's never found the onion bag enough himself - the biggest chink in his armour.

If QPR are to avoid the drop, I feel they're going to need Austin continuing to knock in the goals and, almost as importantly, Zamora assisting him to do so.

Forgive my ignorance, but what was the round of applause for? It came in the 34th minute, if that helps.

was it not for those couple of fans who died?

May have been, yes.
I thought that was the 17th min for MH17?
I don't know what the 34th was for.

34th minute was for the £34k Sunderland fans donated to the Newcastle collection.

I would feel guilty stealing howe of Bournemouth...

Let him win the championship with them and then also keep them up before moving on...Managers need to finish there jobs..and this one is younger than me!!!!!!! He has the world at his feet.

Sherwood isn't proven. But he looks odds on.

I am not a fan.but if we take him I think he has just enough to keep us up.w

I don't like Spurs but I hope they beat United, LVG starting to really get on my **** now. Has the cheek to complain about playing 48 hours after a game. Pathetic. It's the same for everyone, you knew what you were taking on, you've had 150m to build a squad, just shut up & quit complaining. Your injuries aren't even that bad either, Arsenal & Newcastle had it equally as bad.

Everyone complains about playing 48 hours apart.

It's ludicrous really.

The Spanish have 2 weeks off, the Germans a month. No wonder they are doing so well of late.

I'm pretty sure that LVG isn't alone amongst managers in not liking so much football over the Christmas period. However, he and all knew - or should have known - what to expect.

Couple of points.

Firstly, winning the league in the English top tier has always been a test of not just pure footballing skill but many other things as well. These include resilience, strength, etc and everything else that is needed to get you successfully through such a concentrated batch of games.

Secondly, it used to be even more intense. My great uncle was a pro footballer in the 1920s and '30s. I think it was 1930 that Christmas Day fell on a Thursday. He played Division One (top tier) games that year on Christmas Day and Boxing Day as was the tradition then plus the usual Saturday match - 3 games in 3 days plus another on the following Thursday (New Year's Day) and Saturday!

Ah well, off to my game now. Traditional Christmas fixture of Cards v Shots - for those who only follow the Premier League, that's Woking v Aldershot!

Having a Xmas break, doesn't guarantee winning World Cups, it's called technically superior players, better coaching & understanding how to play tournament football as a collective, instead of relying on individuals, who usually don't turn up. We weren't knackered at the World Cup, we've just got average players. These players are mollycoddled & pampered day & night, they can play 48 hours with ease, as they will prove today & for years gone by.

Mason dives, red plays on and allows Spurs to press us on the edge of our box.

High quality refereeing.

Fair result, so wasteful tjough we could have had 3-4 if we'd taken straight forward chances. Ironically out results have been worse in the last 3 games despite playing a lot better. Tottenham very physical and restricted us well in second half, a lot of territory and no really chances though.

The referee. Got nearly every decision wrong, lucky there were no big ones. Lots of fouls missed, incorrectly given, no logic or reasoning to his bookings. Abysmal. Worst standard in the pl since the referees went pro, webbs first season in charge - no coincidence.
