The coolest man (person?) in rock

OK so after a VERY long week at work I've done what I often do on a Friday night and instead of suffering the mindless babble on the TV I've put a music DVD on to chill out to. In typical Friday night fashion I wanted something FUN so put on the Chickenfoot live DVD.

I've come to the conclusion that Joe Satriani is the coolest man in rock. I admire him as a guitarist though I can think of half a dozen I'd say were "better" - but none of them are as cool as Joe!

So who for you is the coolest man (or woman) in rock?

I know most people hate him but my vote is for Bono. He's so anti rock n roll lifestyle which is an achievement for someone in his position....and yet he could be nothing else but a frontman.

Coolest chick is undoubtedly Her Madge (Madonna) Her influence on popular culture is immense. So many people wouldn't have careers if she hadn't done it all first.

Coolest guy? Tough choice, especially seeing as my first three choices are all dead (Joey Ramone, Joe Strummer, Jimi Hendrix) so I'll go with John Lydon.

Alex Turner...I don't even know why, but he seems to exude cool to me.

Undoubtedly Bob Dylan, the guy is constantly changing and still on the road at his age. He dosen't pander to anybody and does what he wants to do, even in the 1960's when people went to his shows to boo him because it wasn't what they wanted to hear....they still went though .

Nobody else would get away with that, he's got a fantastic sense of humour and I don't care what anybody says, nobody else has ever wrote lyrics like that. Without a doubt the coolest man in music.

The coolest guy in rock is Dick Valentine.

The coolest woman is Lady Gaga.

I kind of agree with this...he is pretty awesome. I've seen him twice - First time he was awful, but I still loved him and went a second time to see him.

The coolest man in Rock is Matt Bellamy from Muse. That’s just a scientific fact I’m afraid.
Not technically “rock” but Florence Welsh is pretty cool.

There's so much to dislike about Satriani, the pretentious guitar player who's just isn't that good and tries to hard with his cool look. The coolest people are those who don't try to be.

I love Tom Petty.

Great musician who never seems to appear on peoples "favorites" lists.

His period aroung freefalling, running down a dream, into the great wide open etc was just a brilliant era for him.

Satch may not be the best rock guitarist around but he's certainly ONE of the best (every guitarist I know agrees) and I don't think he tries too hard at all with his look.

Have you seen the Chickenfoot DVD?

You are entitled to your opinion if he's cool or not - that's the question I posed - but to suggest he's "not all that" is frankly not true from a factual point of view even if it is your opinion

I genuinely think that of Davie...I'm yet to find someone say the same of me whe I say that there is no art but in music and poetry.....museums & galleries ....such a waste of space.....oh, pass the bucket!!!!

Satch simply isn't on my radar as far as great guitarists go, he falls into the same category as the likes of Malmsteen and Vai, style over substance with not much more. They don't compare to the blues orientated rock guitarists of the 70's, give me Stevie Ray Vaughan anyday, to be a great guitarist you need to combine emotion and techincal ability not just the latter.

If someone looks cool then they aren't cool.

I think it has to be Saul Hudson (a.k.a Slash) for me.

Anyone with that much guitar talent and who can look great in a top hat gets my vote.

Mind you, he was born in Hampstead and lived in Stoke for a while, which probably takes the edge off his coolness.

Has to be said, I'm the coolest person anywhere and therefore rock aswell. Feel free to bask everyone
