Goal line technology (again) Empty Goal line technology (again)

Some conflicting stories around today. Arsenal.com (via Facebook) are reporting that goal line technology is set to hit the Premier League in the 2012/13 season and mention that is was to be trialed at the upcoming Emirates Cup

BBC however are reporting that they've been refused permission to trial it at the Emirates and only say that it is still being considered for the 2014 World Cup - no mention of the PL 2012/2013 season!

Something fishy going on...

Fifa have probably told them to stop and abandon the plans because once it shows up that it works, they will have no hiding place to not bring it in -- something they repeatedly, and bafflingly, refuse to do.

I'd do it anyway. Stuff 'em.

As a Scotsman goal line tech does not bother me one way or the other. We're never close enough for it to matter

The Scottish viewpoint should be that it may rule out your opponents contentious efforts! Every cloud...

God I hope its not introduced, once its in the whole set up will change and within a few years we'd end up having video refs for everything

There's always the risk that someone will take it too far, I agree. It would be wrong to use it for anything other than goalline issues for me.

Even offsides or penalty incidents should be left alone, at least for now.

I wonder whether a challenge system like with Tennis would be feasible in the future? Two or three per match, and the manager uses them? They wouldn't replenish though, people would appeal everything!

Looks like we could have it at the start of next season. I'm all for goal line technology, but whether or not it should be introduced for offside is a bit of an iffy decision. Lino's might just get lazy and send every decision up to the telly, and then there are those decisions where it's so close it could be given either way.

Maybe one challenge per team if the referee gives the decision they don't agree with. But only for offsides.
