Who is that man at 140?
Who is the man at 140?
Simple really - who do you think the boss is at 140?

Bradley for me, he established himself as the man by beating Alexander and in order to be the man you have to beat the man.

Khan for me. I feel that his level of competition has been better than Bradley's, and I feel that he would win, should they meet.
Alexander has since proven himself to be vastly over-rated, and has shown nothing to suggest he belongs alongside the two in question.

At the time they fought they were rightly or wrongly the number one and two in the division, by winning that fight Bradley was deservedly and rightly considered the number one. Might be an over simplistic point of view but until someone, be it Khan or someone else beat him in the ring or he leaves the division he will retain that status for me. Who I think may or may not win should they fight or Devon's relative merits don't come into it for me.

Personally think Devon was very very lucky to get the decision against Kotelnik Jeff. Slightly overated I think. His stock has plummeted IMO.

Re: Who is the man at 140?
Again daz not arguing that but my point remains that at the time him and Bradley fought they were the one and two at the weight, we can pick apart any record, Paulie has not fought at the weight since and has always fell short at the top level, Zab was lucky to get past Mattyse and so on and so on, if the one and two fight the winner deserves to be considered one at the weight and until her loses at the weight except in truly excpetional circumstances he will stay there.
Appreciate he has been a little inactive but he has promotional issues and rumours of decent money for a gimme next time out, lets get all that sorted and then see where Bradley stands. But for the minute I am happy to consider him number one.

Re: Who is the man at 140?
devon alexander was actually number 3 when he fought bradley cos of the poor showing vs kotelnik and khan was number 2, for now bradley is number 1 but tbh i think apart from facing eachother the most valuable win in the division would be matthysse
Re: Who is the man at 140?
Bradley has recently joined Twitter (not sure whether it is him or not...it certainly seems out of character with what I have seen of him before), but if it is him then the amount of smack he talks makes Khan look the quiet, unassuming kind.
He has been tweeting about Khan non-stop, saying let's get it on etc...which also raises suspicion, as the real Bradley was saying quite the opposite...

Khan was the divisions number two at the time of the Bradley/Alexander fight.

Re: Who is the man at 140?
Its still Bradley for me. Their level of competition is comparable overall but Bradley has been longer reigning and in beating Witter and Alexander he has twice beaten the man generally regarded as the number 2 in the division or biggest rival.
I dont think its entirely fair to devalue the Alexander win post fight. The same could be done to Maidana who is probably Khans biggest win. He was also poor against Kotelnik and has since struggled to beat an ageing Morales. Likewise Judah who looked dodgy before the Khan fight and didnt display anything to make it look like he was a genuine contender at the weight.
With Bradley being stripped though and not being as marketable he needs to sort out his problems and keep active or he risks being outstripped by Khan. It would be a poor reflection on both if the fight doesnt come off. I wont blame Khan for leaving the division in order to chase a big fight like Mayweather but if he moves to Welter just to pick on Mayweather/Pacquaios scraps then it would pretty inexcuseable. He wont fight Paquaio at welter, so he can never be the man at that weight unless Pacquaio retires.
Have a horrible feeling his next two fights are going to be something like Morales and Marquez though if circumstances allow it.

Khan for me. Kotelnik + Maidana + Judah > Alexander + Holt + Witter. Though it's very close between those two. I think Khan also nudges ahead slightly in light of Bradley's poor recent conduct.

khan has proved himself to be the best, and without sparking a debate about ducking/legal matters etc, if you cant/won't fight the other top guys then i judge on on merit.

On a serious note - I understand the logic behind your selection, but I still favour Khan.

I do think Bradley gets a bit too much credit for the Witter and Alexander victories in all honesty.

i dont think its him mate - when i first joined twitter there was someone impersonating him who came out and admitted it wasnt him once he got 1000 followers. For Bradley to smack talk is out of character, unless all his current issues have sent him bonkers.

Re: Who is the man at 140?
I dont think either guy has proved they are categoricaly the number one in the division which is why the fight needs to happen. Theres a decent case to be made for both and if they were to fight next I imagine the odds would would be very close. If either fighter leaves the division I dont think they coud look back and say that they proved beyond reasonable doubt they were the best fighter at 140.

Off topic alert: Any of you guys interested in doing a Sun fantasy football team if I set a mini league up for the 606v2 boxing lot?
There is an overall 606v2 fantasy football league going for another site, but seeing as I've just signed up to the Sun (it is free to enter 1 team this year), we could have a little boxing one.

Very true Manos. The fight needs to happen!
I would be very annoyed if it didnt.

I've already got one with the Sun mate. Do I just need to use another email address to entitle me for another free one? If so, I'm in.

Re: Who is the man at 140?
Am willing to accept that Alexander may well have been number three at the time they fought because I am fairly certain there are people on here who follow the rankings a damned sight closer than I do, however think I would be right in saying at the time it was widely accepted that whoever won that fight could be considered the number one at the weight and for me as that was Bradley and so for me he retains that status.
Will say he cannot hold that status indefinitely and if he either does not fight soon or lines up half a dozen fights against Gavin Rees level fighters he will certainly be supplanted but at the minute a period of extended inaction triggered by promotional issues is not enough to do that for me.

Re: Who is the man at 140?
I do think the margins between the pair is very small at the moment but I do tend to favour Khans willingness to fight the top men in the division recently and at least try to unify the division something which Bradley doesn't seem to be doing of late. In a head to head match up think Khan is a heavy favourite, he's got great speed and a great jab as well as fairly good power whereas Bradley is decent at everything but not one thing stands out.

Fair play Jeff.
Imagine this question was proposed a year or so ago. The results would have been completely the opposite.

My reference to Khan saying 'init' is due to his chavy nature and not anything racial
My favourite silly Khan quote was about Nathan Cleverly:
"Nathans a good up and coming British boxer...well hes from Welsh"
Jokes and silliness aside Khan is an awesome fighter and possibly in a few years gonna be the world P4P number 1

Come on Fists, Naz will do nicely. Take on Audley's mantra and constantly tell yourself Yes I Can Yes I Can, and I think we all remember how well that worked for Audley.
In fact any chance of you getting Audley, that could be fun.

Funny you should say that, Jeff, I spoke with Audley a month or so back and he said he is interested in a Q&A once he has 'something to talk about' e.g. his next big boxing announcement for his quest for world domination.
