Oh dear it was only a few months ago he said this?
“I tried it out last year and it didn’t quite work out for me. I love playing in the States and I love going over there and spending time there,” McIlroy said. “I’m never going to leave the European Tour. It’s my home tour. … I don’t think I’ll join [the PGA Tour] in the next couple years anyway."
Not only does he not like links golf he prefers the US golf courses. A big slap in the face of those Rory fans who have spent their whole time lambasting the US courses Lets wait and see if he quits the Dubai Tour. $eems like young Rory really has his $ights on one thing. I guess if he stays on the Dubai Tour we have the movers and shakers of Dubai to thank for keeping the tour alive me and making it attractive by throwing money to the tour and players alike.

Merc
Sergio - exactly
Re Clarke, i was making the point in response to Digs post about him paying taxes to the US, essentially to say what you said. To a large extent he has no choice
As for acting, err no! I'd have to pay them for that!!

Interesting (or possibly sad) that there seem to be a few tax specialists (or geeks depending on your viewpoint) on this forum [I say this as a member of the Corporatio Taximus species, for whom the statutory residence test and future discussion about domicile are only of indirect interest].

Well, we don't want you missing out, Skydriver, so what do think of the proposed CFC reforms and the imminent foreign branch profit changes?

Probably a smart move for Rory. Florida weather will enable him to golf throughout the winter months, and there's loads of fellow professionals nearby (depending, of course, on where he lives).
Unlike Westwood or Donald, Rory's one European that's certainly captured much of the American public. I suspect his endorsement opportunities are off the charts.
As long as you chalk up the W's, expect more of the same Rory.

Perhaps something for a different board...
Having said that, both of those issues are relevant for successful UK enterprises expanding overseas, so arguably on-topic! Best to leave it there though, otherwise this could become a very weird discussion... [Apart from saying that I can't really see the R&A chief in future announcing something like "The winner of the gold medal and the champion golfer of the year is... Rory McIlroy (Jersey) Ltd, Orlando Florida branch...".]
