Nice headline. More seriously, this is the first of the bigger tourneys for ages when someone outside the big four can get some serious points. Although Djoko is likely to be an even bigger favourite to win it now, he's the only man standing from the top players.
Look at the top 10 rankings and the guys in the bottom half of the 10 have not really got that many points cos Djoko's been winning everything in sight, Rafa's been generally runner up to him and the other two have been making semis.
For once, Rog might have to fight a bit at the end of the year to get a year-end champs place. But a good USO should sort that out, ditto Murray.

Djokovic could break Fed and Nadal's record by adding his 5th masters level event in a single season. I think Connors and lendl once won 5 events in the precursor to the masters, the same point level but called it something else.

I admit I have had some strange thoughts recently...so much so that I have managed to surprise even myself....eg. all of a sudden 1000 masters look like peanuts tournaments, and it nothing matter but slams....and I finally fully what Roger meant when he said only number one matters...crazy, innit?

Yes, Nitb all the points count. He has a lot of points to defend next year the best thing he can do is just keep winning while he is in good form and rack up a giant points lead to the point that he can fail to defend a couple of big titles early next year and still be comfortably on top. I actually think this will be a nice record to have winning the most 1000 point events in a season plus he has already backed it up with two slams. Additionally, once you have established an aura of invincibility you want to hold onto it as long as possible. Right now a lot of players don't even think they have a chance against him, he needs to keep them in that place as long as possible.
