Peel injury blow

Dwayne Peel's hopes of making Wales' World Cup squad have suffered a double injury setback.

Wales attack coach Robert Howley revealed Peel is suffering from a ruptured finger and a hip injury picked up in training with Sale.

Peel's deal with the the Premiership club meant he was unavailable for Wales' build-up until 4 August.

"He ruptured his finger in pre-season," said Howley. "He's still in a splint, he hasn't done any contact work."

Former Wales and British and Irish Lions scrum-half Howley says no decision has been made as to whether or not Peel will be invited to join the preliminary World Cup squad at any stage.

Im guessing that if this means he misses all the summer games then he wont be on the plane.

There is a report in the paper here today that Mathew Rees "looks certain" to miss the world cup. Is that right?

Very disappointing for him. I could think of worse things than captaining your country for a WC.

Here is the link for the story I referred to: http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/welsh-skipper-set-to-miss-world-cup-20110812-1iqsk.html

I heard Gatland crushed his finger when he "welcomed" him to the camp.

Is Peel out really considered 'a blow?'

I don't think so, he chose to leave Wales and get the extra money, though I think he has lost out big time because being picked for Wales is worth a hell of a lot in money terms as well. He's missed basically 5 years worth of caps as a result of that decision, and Wales simply have better options now at Scrum Half, we don;t need him really.

Exactly; and on top of that every time he did get another chance he played quite badly for us. Yet despite all of this some people still see him as an option.
