US Open Day 8 05/09
First topic message reminder :
Good Morning Tennis Fans,
May the 4th round commence.
Tsonga v Fish
Tipsarevic v Ferrero
Djokovic v Dolgopolov
Federer v Monaco
Looking at that line up is quite something. Hard to see an upset on the cards. If I was to have a flutter on an upset it would be Ferrero over Tipsarevic. Looks like it will be business as usual for Federer and Djokovic.

Funny that the atmosphere on Arthur Ashe is as flat as a witch's Holly Wilaboobie

I'm loving this guys stuff, and it sounds like the crowd feel the same way too. Sure, he's a bit crazy and his shot selection is confusing, but he's got Djokovic playing the Syd Little to his Eddie Large.
I love attitude of his coach too; he's applauding losses when his guy is doing his thing
And yes, where have the time violations gone?

I did think at one stage they were going to ask for new balls by the time he finished bouncing the spots off them

Djokovic is shockingly boring in this match. I think Dolgopolov's game isn't especially effective but it's certainly making Nole look very stiff and unimaginative.

Dolgo is playing like he has Serena's backside on top of his legs in this set.

This is what it feels like playing those physical players. You can battle a set or 2 but after the mind goes cause you know it's too much hard work to keep pulling magic shots one after the other. THat' why they also have morepressure in the first set cause they know if they lose it and the match is over. At least if they win it, they can find the xtra energy. Exactly what happened yesteday to Nalbandian after losing that first set.

If Dolgo had tidier footwork, he could be unplayable.

Good showing from Dolgopolov but Djokovic just a bit too strong in the end. Very entertaining match this but Djokovic marches on.

Fantastic first set from Dolgopolov - very unfortunate for him that bad call in the tiebreak which would have taken him to 5 1. Great recovery though. Really entertaining.
1 set each between Tsonga and Fish - this looks like it has been a good match too - double digit winners from both in 2nd set.

The first set was always going to be more important to win for Dolgopolov and it became critical when it turned into a marathon tie-break. Once he lost that his spirit was broken but certainly a player with a lot of promise.

Yeah I agree CC, the first set was a must for Dolgopolov. It wasn't exceptional play from Novak today, but he did what he needed to in obviously very windy conditions.
Definitely will prioritise all of Dolgopolov's matches in future - his coach looked fun too!

Pale grey seems his uniform colour (Wimbledon apart of course). Not keen on them.

I wonder if he will watch a replay - the 'wet look' is not a great one! Can't remember who it was wearing light blue the other day - effect was the same.
2 sets to Mardy Fish and a fantastic serve to kick off 4th set.

Thanks Legend. I hear the weather might close in tomorrow?
Tsonga has just played a brilliant game to break Mardy F and take first game in the fifth. I am exhausted, but now have to see this one through to the end!

At least Federer didn't allow much time between getting onto the court and getting off.

Well that was an impressive match for TMF - at least I presume it was, fell asleep during Wozniacki and continued to snooze through first two sets. Fed looked as if everything was working very well in the third - presume it was the same for the first two sets and not just ues from Monaco?

Fed was very dominant but he would be, with Monaco unable to do anything to take him out of his comfort zone.
JWT certainly will, though Fish was a touch unfortunate not to get through there what with the groin and it being so close.
The revelation of the day is Djokovic admitting to being confused on court because his opponent didn't play bulk standard 2011 ping pong tennis. What a shocker of an admission!

Yes I think Tsonga is looking very powerful indeed bb, I really don't want to see him beat up TMF but at the same time really pleased to see him get it together - amazing number of winners from both Fish and Tsonga in their match - really exciting.

Just watched Federer back on Sky +
Monaco just well and truly outplayed. Federer playing some quite amazing stuff. The BH killed Monaco.
Feds serving was fantastic out there.

Weren't the stats something like 78 percent first serve legend? It was certainly fast and furious in the third.

Oh my god he was confused for a set and half by a guy in the top 30 who plays like no one else on tour, what a revelation. How many sets did Dolgo win again? Oh that is right zero. Shocking revelation it is not, but completely irrelevant it is.

His first serves in was 66%
85% won on first serves
14 aces.
He was serving like a beast. He must have the most brutal body serve on the tour. He tucked Monaco up like a kipper.

Re: US Open Day 8 05/09
I watched the whole Fed match.. and I can honestly say that was the best single performance of the tournament by any one player. 42 winners in 3 short sets says it all. Fed looked irritated to be coming out so late (midnight) but he was focused and razor sharp, taking the ball ridiculously early and serving like a beast. His movement was crisp.
For any Fed fans, I would recommend watching this match if you can find it anywhere. Vintage performance.
Let's hope he can maintain it.

Re: US Open Day 8 05/09
I watched the entire match. Regardless of the quality of opposition (btw, Monaco is not that bad!!), this was the best performance of Fed in the last3 years (imho) - better than the Djoker match in FO or WTF finals last year.
Exagerating a bit but I certainly felt that both Djoker and Nadal combined on the other side of the net would have lost to this Fed! He didnt reach deuce on his service game till while serving out for the match. Monaco played good - you know his style and he had no say in what was happening! His backhand was the awesome to say the least and till midway through the second set, he had 100% points at net and he made some of the most unbelievable volleys... At one point, Monaco at net lost his racquet on impact from Fed's booming backhand (yes backhand, not forehand!!).
