Useless Tennis Fact Day 2 Empty Useless Tennis Fact Day 2

In Woody Allen's 'Match Point' the luck of a net cord landing back on the hitter's side is used as an analogy for the luck of a vital piece of murder evidence (a lady's ring) being thrown into a river, but hitting the top of a riverside railing and falling back to ground unnoticed by the murderer (thus not being lost in the river).

Ironically the murderer is ultimately absolved of the murder because a petty thief finds the ring and, when arrested for another crime, it is found in his possession and he is then convicted of the murder instead.

Quote from the film :-
The man who said "I'd rather be lucky than good" saw deeply into life. People are afraid to face how great a part of life is dependent on luck. It's scary to think so much is out of one's control. There are moments in a match when the ball hits the top of the net, and for a split second, it can either go forward or fall back. With a little luck, it goes forward, and you win. Or maybe it doesn't, and you lose.

JHM I liked the film too but for other reasons.

Scarlet Johansson playing ping pong for one and her (how can I put it) rather shapely figure.

Certainly beast Kirsten Dunst in that ridiculous Wimbledon movie.

Yes, and I believe you can make your own luck.

I have been very lucky in life.....I seem to have the ability to make things happen.....I discovered, some time ago, that it's called manifestation.

Andy Murray needs to learn this art, it's quite simple, then he'd get lucky in Slams.

I know what you mean NB.
Although as Lloyd Cole put it, I am
"no longer young, no longer driven to distraction,
not even by Scarlett Johansson."
