Rugby World Cup Stats Empty Rugby World Cup Stats

Post by Guest Thu 20 Oct 2011, 10:36 am

So was reading this article:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/rugby-world-cup/8835958/Rugby-World-Cup-2011-awards-McCaw-for-best-player-Lawrence-for-biggest-villain-Cast-your-vote.html

Noticed some pretty interesting stats, really opened my eyes to a few players who go by unnoticed, and Quade Coopers 21 turnovers...well

I was surprised by how many carries Halfpenny and Faletau have made, also Faletaus 74 tackles 0 missed, impressive from the youngster still in his single digits of caps

N.Z. have 5 players in the defenders beaten category and 5 in the clean break category.I know they've played every game at home so they're bound to do better but they've been unreal in attack,by quite a margin the best team in the world.

A Welsh player top of every catergory bar clean breaks and turnovers conceded. It shows the determination of some of these player.

AWJ was Wales 2nd highest carrier, thats suprising.

George North, most defenders beaten, hospitalised, put into a coma, run away in fear, destroyed....well we all could have guessed that Wink

In fairness to Quade, he's well up the list for balls carried - just a shame that 1 in every 3 carries he gets turned over ...

Number of carries is pointless without the distance carried. If some carried to most but always got knocked back, is it good (e.g. Borthwick). All it means is that you got passed the ball a lot and can't pass.

Most tackles and missing none is a much better stat for Faletau. Fantastic

Interesting that JD2 appears in the clean breaks and defenders beaten for Wales. Perhaps he hasnt been performing so badly in attack Shocked

Having Charteris in the tackle stats makes me smile aswell.

2 of Wales players who have their inclusion constantly questioned by fans, have performed excellantly this world cup and really seemed to come of age. Not even going to mention the backrow.

Interesting that Kaino beats defenders like a winger. The mans a beast!

No he hasn't been as bad as some guys made out, I was very surprised at the criticism he got after the SA match.

That stat about Faletau not missing a tackle is wrong though, I definitely seen him miss at least one. I think that was against Ireland, but yeah he definitely missed a tackle.

Francois Hougaard must get an honourable mention on the clean-breaks front considering he played comparatively little rugby, typically coming on as an impact player late in the game - and yet he is in the top ten for clean breaks!

New Zealand havent had to play themselves though, theyd have more missed tackles and less clean breaks if they had. Erm
