Josef Scmidt admits he'd be tempted by an offer to become Ireland backs coach;

http://www.rabodirectpro12.com/news/11385.php

"I love the job I am doing here," said Schmidt. "I'd never say never but I haven't been approached, and it's not something I have given thought to.

"If I was approached, I would have to think about it and then talk to my family and to Leinster as well.

"I am contracted to Leinster until 2013 and I would say that any job I have done in rugby, I have never not done (completed) my contract."

Is it incredibly tenuous? Yes. Does he reaffirm his commitment to Leinster? Yes.

Should we try and get him in? YES. No brainer.

Pros:
- Good working relationship with most players
- Vast experience working as a backs coach

Cons:
- Could it lead to favouritism. Could it see the likes of Spence and Felix Jones lose out to the guys he knows?

Stag i suppose thats the risk you always take in irish rugby i.e. being accused of favouritism...kidneys has been accused of favouring munster players as an ex munster coach...you would think that the fact schmidt isnt irish might help on that one! (despite his current leinster background)

It might lead to accusations of bias but he has shown he can work with youngsters and isnt afraid to trust them. Exactly what we need imo.

So.. he would be finishing his contract with Leinster first and won't be available for Ireland until 2013?

So we would have a kiwi, an aussie and a saffa all coordinated by an Irishman. Sounds good to me

If Schmidt had been involved in RWC 2011 campaign, we would be sleepless with anticipation tonight. Sadly we are not and I am amazed at the lack of critical analysis of our tame exit to a Welsh team who are better than we credited them but not world-beaters. NZRFU conducted a full review of their failure in 2007 and found Henry to be blameless. Would that we did that in Ireland and either exonerate or remove the coaching team. This RWC was a bigger failure for Ireland than 2007.

I was impressed with Scmidt when he was at the Blues in the mid 2000s,but on watching Ireland lately they need a lot more than what he can offer.

I think there's something to it Stand. To me it was a bigger failure after the Australia match. Belief was raised but then shattered
